Media Centre remote wont work (2 Viewers)

It was 2 years ago, but couldnt find anything! I did find out the name but can't remember now! I know, no help! Thats why i just switched to Win med centre.

These guys have some nice products that should work out of the box with MediaPortal !
This remote in particular should be in the recommended hardware list, if it works !

I just received this mail from Focus Electronics:

As you can understand, this remote was designed under Vista MCE system, therefore, those hot keys are useful under Vista MCE but not for all of application. and this is not a remapable remote, but we have a new version which can remap any key, and text typeable via number keys. please find this page Focus Electronic Co., Ltd Showroom: ****RM-518 for more details.

You might look into using Event Ghost to map the keys. EG does have a MediaPortal plug in.

I just found this thread, looking for a HOW TO for setting up a MCE Remote in MediaPortal.
The remote works fine with other applications. Except with MediaPortal. Here I can only use the up, down, left, right and the volume button.

Following this thread, it seems to me that there isn't a clear solution yet, or is there?

If not, could anyone give me a comprehensive rundown on how to use EventGhost, the MediaPortal Configurations, Macros, Plug-Ins etc. for setting up a MCE remote?

I'm sure, it would help a lot of people here (this thread has already over 1000 views!)

Check out this thread for some more on making MCE remotes work and why some will never do play, pause, ff, etc.

One of the problems is that there are different types of "media center remotes". Unless you have one of the ones that emulates all of the key presses of the original Microsoft standard, you're in a tough spot. One way to check is to see how Windows recognizes the remote ... as a remote or as a keyboard? My clone media center remote was recognized as a keyboard.

EventGhost is an open source application that is free. Install and run it, and then choose "Media Center Remote" as one of the plug ins from the left column, and drag it to the right column. Find the Media Portal plugin on the left, and drag it to the right column. Expand the keypress functions under the Media Portal plugin. Then press a number button on your remote. You should see "MCE Remote ONE" or something like that appear at the bottom of the left column. Select and drag it to the "Number One" function under the Media Portal plug in on the right side.

What you will probably find is that there are no actual codes recognized for play, pause, etc. Numbers and arrow keys will work, but on some of the MCE remotes sold, those are the only ones.

It motivated me to look more into EventGhost, Keymapping, Shortcuts.... although I have "THE" MCE-Remote (the one from microsoft)
