Hi All,
I am VERY new to MediaPortal, but I've read A LOT over the last week or so, so yes, I have searched, read the documentation, etc.
I am a long time user of XBMC and LOVE the way it works. It's simple, clean, but it requires the use of the controller, and setting it up on multiple TVs isn't really ideal.
I'm looking to solve a relatively SIMPLE MediaPortal scenario. I have some media on my PC: my CDs ripped to MP3, my DVDs ripped to ISO, and some DVR content in various video formats. To this point, XBMC works really well for accessing this content, but again, moving it from TV to TV isn't feasible.
I don't need to record any content (at this point), so there won't be any TV Tuners involved. My basic plan was to use a PC/TV in my house (3 currently) and have the data pulled from my Office PC/NAS down the hall. I have CAT5 run throughout the house, so connectivity is covered.
My question is this:
In reading the documentation for setting up MediaPortal, TV Server, etc it looks like I have to do a full install of MediaPortal, MySQL, and everything on each computer, and have them sync the info on the DB and in the media folders?
This seems like a waste of bandwidth, storage, and processing speed just to be able to view media on a few different systems. XBMC simply pulled the files from a share over the network. Does MP provide some sort of thin/light-weight client?
If I've totally missed something, I apologize. Again, I have read the install guides, searched the forums, etc. I just can't seem to find a solution to my problem.
And TIA to the first responder, who I'm sure will post a link to EXACTLY what I'm looking for.
TIA ~ Jonesie
