hello all,

i am trying to setup a new tv/streaming/itunes/web machine for the kitchen. wanted something a little more 'point&click' = medial portal!

specs above i know are not super fast, but i feel should be up to the task of straming, and won't be recording or time shifting, etc. 300mhz celeron is currently providing those duties.

i have read all the 'requirements', and feel xp pro is setup as it should be for medial portal (aside for maybe the tv card! works with intervideo though...). media portal should at very least start, no?

only software on this box right now is: xp(with all updates, .net2, directx 9c, wmp11 ) + medial portal (with all codecs, etc) + norton antivirus.

any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

tia

OK, just about to head out so can't look too much into this, but if I look at my log file I get this:
    2007-07-21 20:54:23.546875 [Info.][MPMain]: Load key mapping from C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\keymap.xml
    2007-07-21 20:54:23.656250 [Info.][MPMain]: Loading localised Strings - Path: C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\Language Culture: en Language: English Prefix: True
    2007-07-21 20:54:23.671875 [Info.][MPMain]: Loading strings file: strings_en.xml

your log stops at the stage where MP stsarts to load the strings file, but doesn't get to the actual "loading" stage.
Could your strings folder be faulty or corrupt?

I'd probably recommend uninstalling MP and then deleting the MP folder then reinstalling, to reset all your settings to default.
I would say that this error isn't to do with your lower spec machine, but you may face other issues afterwards as a result. Upgrading your video card may also be the best upgrade for you, since MP is very DX reliant.

    Thanks for your time.

I did try what you are suggesting a few times before posting. No luck.

I am currently reinstalling XP pro with an Asus TV card that I had kicking around (even listed on Media Portals supported list!)

    We'll see how it goes....

do the log files always stop at the same place? Since you are using English as your language it's pretty strange. If you had a lesser used language then there wopuld be more chance of a fault in the strings file.

Also, with any of the newer versions, you also need .net v3, but since you are still on v.2.2 you should be ok.
