Ah, I see you have the 0.2.3 RC3

I suggest you download this file It's RC3 of version 1.0. And has both the TV server and the Mediaportal with TV client.

    try that

i've tried all kinds of software. i don't know how to use the tv client part because never used it before.
but i did notice that you need internet wich i don't have on that computer. i need a independent software where you don't need internet thats why i used the rc3 v0.2.3 sofware and wasn't able to get any channels after i my card was recognized. rc1 v.0.2.3 didn't recognize my card so im stuck. can someone please help me with media portal and how can i use it without internet client.

is the new version of media with tv client or just the use of software without the internet there.
please let me know when you guys and girls get a chance

    Hi Lilmale,

Have a good read of the link that Paranoid Delusion posted above. As he said, be slow, methodical, and make sure you follow all instructions exactly.

I'd recommend installing the TV Server and MediaPortal Client as per the main download link. Stick with the relatively stable 1.0 RC2 version for the moment. Version 1.0 seems much better at picking up TV cards properly, compared to 0.2.3.

The term 'server' seems to be throwing you off a bit, but it shouldn't. The concept of the TV server is that it's an application that you run automatically when you start your computer, and it takes care of turning on channels for watching or recording. It also handles the electronic program guide. The MediaPortal client is a separate application, and it talks with the TV server for the purposes of viewing TV programs (either live to air, or recordings). The client is the application that you directly interact with to watch media and set up recordings, etc.

Both of these applications can run on the same physical computer, so you don't need an internet connection, or any kind of password, etc. You can run them on separate computers, but from the sounds of it, you just want to run everything on the one computer, and it will work fine. This single PC setup is sometimes referred to, in the documentation and here in the forums, as 'singleseat' or 'hotseat'.

If you're happy to give it a go, read the manual and make sure that your computer meets all of the requirements listed there. Then go through the installation wizard and install all of the required software that it prompts you to. At one point you'll be asked about the kind of database to install - you can choose either MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server. I'd recommend the latter if you've never touched a database management system before - it's a bit more user friendly.

Sometimes it takes a couple of goes to install completely, just keep at it until it's fully installed. Configure the TV Server application using the link in the Start Menu that gets created. Then configure MediaPortal. If there's something there you don't understand, just leave it as the default setting.

Keep at it - it can take a while, even for experienced hands, to properly set up a home theatre PC exactly how you like it. It's all about patience, trial and error, and of course visiting forums like this to get help when you get stuck.

    Good Luck!

    Rob.
