media portal, very slow showing folder contents (1 Viewer)

is there any way to speed up MediaPortal when it opens folders? for example, i have 2200 assorted songs in an assorted folder. Ive split that into 2, A-K + L-Z. However it still takes at least 20sec to load the contents of each subsection.

I wouldnt think 1100 songs is a big task. The MediaPortal box is 100mbit cat5'ed into a router, then its 54mbps wireless to the computer with the music on it. Im pretty sure ID3 tags are turned off, but i used the "File Name" view anyway.

Im sortof convinced that this is not a networking issue, its a problem with MP itself. This is because i have 500 music clips stored on the MP hard drive, so its completely local, and that also takes a long time to load.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this? Its really annoying waiting a long time to listen to a song/music clip/movie.

i don't think there's a way round this yet. see that mp tries to get id3tags and embedded coverart etc from every single file. however, have you updatet your musicdatabase in configuration? this causes a massive improvement of speed in my case. but folders with a large amount of files still take some time, thats right
