Media Portal vs Windows MC (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone,

I am relatively new to the Media Portal. I have been playing around with Media Portal for last couple of weeks. I am really impressed with it and consider switching from Windows MC to Media Portal. I myself work as a .NET (C#) developer and hoping in the future to be able to contribute something if time permits.

There are few things that I can not figure out and those few things unfortunately still keep me coming back to Windows most of the time. Sometimes Windows MC is driving me nuts and sometimes I don't know if MS is so irrogant or just greedy to implement some of the functionalities that are really useful. I hope that there are some plugins available that I can use in MP. I did some search and I know that some of the questions have been answered but those postings were rather old (over a year old) and I just wanted to discuss it and see if there is more up-to-date information.

If someone can help me with these I would really appreciate!

1. I've been trying to figure out how to setup TV Listing properly on my box. I live in New York, USA and use STB from Cablevision/Optimum with IR emitter that switches the channels on the STB itself (imitates remote control). The signal from STB coming to TV card is S-VIDEO. I was able to retrieve listing but can not figure out how to configure MP to switch the channel using IR emitter on the STB.

2. I know there are some options available but nevertheless. Are there any good plugins that would allow to schedule/view recordings or TV remotely?

2. Yes, just google mediaportal plugins and you should find what you need
