I am happily running a dedicated MP htpc. It has been working well and is configured how I like it. I've noticed that my media collection is quite large now though (video, audio, pictures etc) and am re-evaluating the way I have my media stored. I currently have it on the drives in the system (1x 1TB and 1x 1.5TB) and have no backup of any of the files.
I was thinking about setting up a NAS with raid function and storing the files on there so that if a drive fails I shouldnt lose anything. I then found out about FreeNAS and was interested in building one. I want to be able to store all the files on the freenas box and just have a single drive in the htpc for the os/MP/TV recordings.
Has anyone got a similar setup and can offer me some advice? Do the videos stream across without performance issues? Is there a better way? Any advice would be much appreciated!
