MediaPortal 1.0 putting htpc to sleep after 5 minutes (1 Viewer)

Hi all,
To get mediaportal to wake the HTPC for recordings, I had to turn off vista's built-in sleep options and completely rely on the powerscheduler plugin to put the htpc to sleep. It works, but now the problem is unless I'm watching a video or recording a tv program, the htpc is put to sleep after just a few minutes, even though I've set powerscheduler to go to sleep after 60 minutes of idle. Any ideas?

I could've sworn I came across a post describing a similar problem, but I haven't had luck finding it again.
thanks.

Hello, I am having the same issue here : sometimes powersheduler puts computer in standby after one minute or so, even sometimes it puts the computer to sleep AFTER i asked it to reboot (and in the middle of the reboot process, that continues after i wake the pc up)........

so power scheduler sometimes doesn't seem to notice that I am using the PC ...

have you solved the issue ? If yes, how please ?

I have the same problem. I think it has worked like this at least for a year. Correct me if I'm wrong. I have 1.0.1 and same behavior continues.

Maybe too obvious but... I'll have a shot at it anyway.
As non of you have provided their configuration, I am assuming you are using MP+TVS.

There are two areas where you need to configure Powerscheduler: in TVS and in MP [Powerscheduler Client].
In TVS you generally specify it to shutdown after x mins of activity. You can prevent it from shutting down by specifying specific processes, iexplore.exe.
In MP you can specify that it should only start a shutdown when you are on the home window.

In my specific situation, I have configured Powerscheduler Client to only shutdown the machine if I'm on the home window. I have configured the Powerscheduler to shutdown after 5 mins.
This way, in order to shutdown my machine [Vista], I go to the home screen and leave it there for 5 mins.
If I'm working on the desktop [with MP shutdown], I always fire up IE and have configured Powerscheduler not to shutdown if that process is running. Note: If you go to the Home window in MP with IE still running in the background, it will not go to sleep of course.

The problem with the shutdown during a reboor cycle is not preventable as far as I know. It all depends on the timing. The Powerscheduler Client is no longer preventing a shutdown as MP is closed and the only timer still active at that time is the Powerscheduler in TVS. If that time has gone to 0 during the reboot cycle, it will suspend the system.

    Regards,

    Peter

    Hi Pletskop,

I have exactly the same setup & configuration. (except I use firefox). The problem is that after I quit firefox it doesn't wait for 5 minutes. It might go to sleep immediately after it. (Just tested it. It went to sleep about 50 seconds after quitting firefox.)

    Hi Testimies,

Same on my system, but I consider this to be logical...
Afterall, the shutdown timer [e.g. 5 mins] starts counting when MP is idle... The only things you are doing with IE/Firefox is preventing Powerscheduler not to shutdown... you are not resetting the idle timer. If this has gone to zero when you remove the process preventing shutdown, Powerscheduler will immediately start the shutdown thread.

Of course this is open for debate whether this is desired functionality or not. I have also been in the situation where my MP client was closed/not running because of maintenance I was doing in Windows and it immediately went too sleep after I closed IE. If you are doing this do perform a reboot, it isn't handy :)

Not sure if you could call this a bug or not more "functions as designed"...

ANy other opinions on this one?

That's one of the failures with Vista, it cannot reset the timer "by user activity", XP does not have this problem, so any user activity anywhere in windows will keep the pc awake.

This is something that Bavarian, nor any other MP DEV, has ever solved :(

    Feature request

Hello. I have thought, that one feature in power scheduler would be cool, would and avoid many problems: "prevent standby if process X is not running". In that setting I would confugure MediaPortal.exe. So similar setting as the opposite one to prevent standby is some process is running. It's quite annoying if you close MediaPortal and start to do something, and suddenly computer sleeps.
