Hi. I'm going to install my first copy of MP2. I was wondering what the system requirements are?

My MP1 setup is 2 actual HTPC machines (one with TV Server which I will no longer need going forward) and my 'shares' of media are all stored on a 1.3ghz Dual Core Atom HP Prolient Microserver.

What is the best setup to go with? MP2 Server on the Prolient and 2 Client only? Is the Microserver going to be up to the task?

    Thanks!

EDIT: I guess I should mention the Prolient is running WHS2011..

The MP2 Server needs to have access to the TV tuner cards (if you are using some). The Atom can be a bit weak for the MP2 server, especially during imports. There lots of DB operations and thumbnail generations are going on. And with (one of) the next release MP2 server also will contain a full blown DLNA Media Server that sometimes can be ask to transcode videos on the fly. This won't work with such a slow CPU...
I would recommend to install the MP2 Server on a machine that has enough power, don't eat too much energy and is used most often while using the client.. The location of the media is not that important. You can e.g. install the MP2 server in living room and use media from a NAS in basement, no problem...

OK. I installed client and server on my laptop to have a play with it first. Kind of stumped on even the simple thing of adding a network location share. Its not very intuitive and I see nothing in the wiki. How do you add a path \\server\folder\folder?! This path works fine from the machine but it will not accept it in MP2.

Also depending on the skin I see error messages about complex resource provider paths etc.. Maybe it is not intended for general use yet? When you use the network neighbourhood options and get to the devices it finds, is the + icon supposed to open up the file structure? Doesn't seem to do anything here and I don't see any 'busy' indicators like it is doing something.

    Hi TheBatfink,
    adding a network location share
if your network share is password protected, first go to Settings->ServerSettings->Network credentials, check "Use username and password to access server", enter username and password and click ok. If the network share is accessible to everyone without credentials, you can skip this step.
Then go to Settings->Media sources->Media sources configuration>Add Media source; there chose "Server media source/Network neighborhood" and click "continue". Now you should be able to navigate to your network share. You should see all computers and shares that are accessible either for everyone without credentials or with the credentials you entered above. If you don't see your network share, please post the server.log file here.
    Cheers!

Thanks, I must of gotten it into some weird state as the option to supply credentials wasn't selectable. After a reboot I was able to provide the username and password and the server was expandable with the + icon.

    Added OK now :)
