Hmm, fair enough.
I guess my immediate thought was that I don't know of any other software that would be much easier (for the full cable lineup option). All of the stuff that luci5r and I are dealing with at the moment would be irrelevant for a basic setup. For that, basically all you'd have to do is follow what luci5r did in this post. Anyhow, I could very well be wrong about the difficulty with other software, and I truly wish you all the best with your setup. You'd be welcome to come back to MP any time if you change your mind...

I know it's too little too late for the OP here, but I recently was in the same position.

What really started bringing things together for me, and perhaps for people who come along later, was signing up for and setting up schedulesdirect for the electronic program guide (EPG). The 2nd thing was installing the k-lite basic codec pack and selecting the ffdshow dxva codec for h.263 under tv and video. I know codec packs are rather taboo here but this one works for me.

After that, there's a little bit of fiddling with the IR blaster, and with getting the remote to work, but those pieces fell in to place pretty quickly.
