Mediaportal and the Ouya (1 Viewer)

OK so I decided to cut the cord and I bought an HDhomerun. Got the Homerun set up Mediaportal is up and running on a computer downstairs not connected to a TV. Now the challenge get it to a TV and get a nice interface that plays well with the others in the family.

My first attempt is through XBMC using an ouya. It's up and running but I will stop short of calling it great. Interface lags playback is dropping frames. I find it hard to believe the OUYA can't handle this as it handles 15gb MKV rips all the time.

Now for my question. Has anyone ever set this up with an OUYA is there any config I can do to make it run better?
If not an OUYA what is the best way for me to get this to the other 3 TV's in the house.

    Hi Kurt, your problem here is the 1080i from your HDHomeRun that the tegra3 chip is not strong enough to decode properly. 1080i signal is a lot more CPU/GPU
    intensive than a 15Gb 1080p24 movie. I don't think there's "cheap" 1080i capable device on the market yet. Maybe in 1 or 2 years.

    I find that odd that 1080i mpeg2 would be more intensive than 1080p h264. I guess I am assuming that the recordings are mpeg2. I am assuming that the OUYA is optimized for H264 but not mpeg2. I went ahead and installed XBMC on a PC and will try to see if the performance is better.

    How does it perform on something like this?

    Normally HDTV is coded in h264 so there should'nt be a difference at all. And this has nothing to do with mpeg2 vs h264.

    it's the "i" vs the "p" that makes the difference. "i" means "Interlaced" and "p" means progressive. This interlaced video only is half a video. The stations broadcast only every second line per frame and the player (-hardware) needs to add the missing lines. When interlaced the first frame (picture) only has line 1, 3, 5, 7, 9,... and the second one has only lines 2,4,6,8,... the third one contains line 1,3,5,7,... again, the fourth one has line 2,4,6,8,... and so on. From every two half pictures the player has to render two full pictures. This eats lots and lots of hardware especially GPU power. The stations are broadcasting in 1080i to save 50% bandwidth and money. So the load is moved to the customer...
