I would suggest something else may be better suited. any adjustments you do to your system could be through a normal PC interface, media portal is designed around having to be easy enough to use to sit on a TV, operated by a remote. I would say media portal would probably work but might not be optimal, you don't need something to look pretty, media portals target does need to look nice.

Mostly I think media portal is fairly easy to configure, mostly it works or it doesn't (and when it doesn't nothing seems to fix it). Analogue doesn't seem to work at all for me, and I think that is what you need, apparently it works for other people but they won't tell me how :(

maybe give mediaportal a go, the card may even come with so software (although no doubt that will be lame) but it might be better suited.

:D

Have a look at ZoneMinder: Linux Home CCTV and Video Camera Security with Motion Detection - this is far better for your use case scenario - and open source as well ;)

are there any PC-based software you would recommend?
