Hi there,

I'm a new MediaPortal user, I would like to thank the team behind it! It has so much more to offer then Vista Media Center, which isn't even free.

Question: yesterday, I did a fresh re-install of Vista 32-bit, installed SP1, all patches etc. Thereafter I installed MP 1.0RC1. I finally got the H264 content working, with use of the PowerDVD codec and the EVR video renderer. This morning, after a complete startup, MP crashes when I try to play a video, which includes MPEG2 content (ffdshow). I've read something about Filmerit earlier, could this be a solution? I don't have the debugging info at hand, I could post it later on.

Cheers,
Frank

when I try to play a video, which includes MPEG2 content (ffdshow).

This should be handled by either PowerDVD (preferred) or M$ mpeg2 codec, unless you have set FFDShow set for postprocessing.
FFDShow is great as codec Audio codec (preferred)

filmerit is good for finding out if you have codec\filter errors, but not individual file errors, gspot is good for this, just run the file in the program and it will tell you codecs necessary to play are installed\being used.

    Hi Delusion,

Thanks for your reply. The problem is that it worked yesterday. I then shutted down the pc, and the next day after powering it on, it didn't work anymore. I get an istant crash at the moment I try to play H264 content (PowerDVD codec) or MPEG2 content (ffdshow).
As far I can imagine, it could be the result of restarting Windows which then changes the registry in a bad manner due to new installed updates... Or am I thinking wrong here?

Have you got system restore enabled, try rolling back prior the this happening.

OK, a reinstall of all software (Mediaportal / server + codecs) seemed to do the trick... Solved!

    TY, Frank
