I've got my HTPC up and running under WMC, but I'd like to use MediaPortal. Unfortunately that's not working out so well...

Whenever I install the software and check the "Run MediaPortal now" box at the end of the installation, MediaPortal runs just fine. But when I try to launch the app directly (via the desktop shortcut, the start menu, or the filesystem -- MediaPortal.exe), the following occurs:

The Splash screen appears along with the nifty sound. Then it goes to the blue screen and says "MediaPortal" at the top, and it has the animated, slowly turning WMC-style background... I see a faded box in the center of the screen which LOOKS like it belongs to a menu, but thats IT. Nothing else happens! I know the program isn't completely locked up because that background image keeps turning, but I get nothing useful -- no menu, etc, no interface. The only thing I can do is Alt-F4 the app and go back to using WMC (which works just fine).

My setup:

TV-Server Version: ? Latest

I'm really anxious to try MediaPortal, anyone have ideas on how to at least track down the problem? Is there an error log, etc?

you seem to be a bit vague about what you have installed, ie its not listed in the support form,
logs are in the users/all users/application data/team media portal folder (this is on xp but search on tmp and you'll find it

I'm not sure what you mean by this. I'm pretty sure I downloaded MediaPortal version 1.0 RC2 (hence "Latest"), and the application calls itself "MediaPortal2 Infiinity". The codecs, etc are pretty much the defaults that come with Windows Vista, though I'm not sure how those could be relevant when the MediaPortal application itself gives up before building the main menu. Aside from those facts, I've been as specific as I can, so if you want additional specific information that is not listed in my original post, please ask specifically. :)

Incidentally, I've searched all over the hard drive in Windows Vista and cannot find a log for MediaPortal. And the application still fails to get past that initial screen, where it looks like its going to build the main menu and never does.

Am I really the only one who has this problem? Can someone PLEASE help me figure this out?
