    Hey guys,

    I use MediaPortal since 2005, maybe earlier, and my collection of tv series, movies and anime in these years has become big enough. For this reason I think about building a NAS (the original idea came to me thanks to a video I saw years ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UATmrLzZLP4).

    I chose FreeNAS as the O.S. of the NAS.
    The last release of FreeNAS (9.2.1) has some interesting plugins, but I have noted one thing that I dislike a little. Some of these plugins work with Mediaportal competitor XMBC and only with it.

    I don't know "Python" (the language in which the FreeNAS plugins are written) or C#/.NET (the language in which the Mediaportal plugins are written) so I would simply ask if there is someone who would like to create/modify that plugins, of course not only for me and not much for me (I'm Italian, some of these plugins can't work properly for non-English people I suppose).

    I simply think that MediaPortal "deserves" to be considered more and its integration with such kind of software might be a good way to do this, without leaving it aside as someone could do (not me, of course!) because it is not linked with the outside software.:(

    Thanks a lot to everyone who would want to take this task.;)

    P.S.
    If I post this message in the wrong tread, sorry, please redirect it to the right place, thanks.

    I'm a little lost as to why there would be a plugin for a file server. I've had two diffrent servers one was just for files and on this windows didn't need anything to see it. I just had it on the network and every thing worked. 2nd is what I have now were it's a back end and I have utorrent ,mediportal tv server and file server. so I don't see were a pulgin fits in what do you want it to do?

    Well, maybe if I show which are the FreeNAS plugins available and which of them work with XBMC it may be help.

    http://bacula.org/en/
    http://www.bittorrent.com/intl/it/sync
    https://couchpota.to/ <== this is also a XMBC's plugin
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly_Media_Server
    https://github.com/mdlesk/Gamez
    http://htpc.io/ <== this work also with XMBC
    http://www.maraschinoproject.com/ <== this is also a XMBC's plugin
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MiniDLNA
    https://github.com/evilhero/mylar
    http://owncloud.org/
    https://plex.tv/ <== this exist also for Windows and for MediaPortal
    http://sabnzbd.org/ <== this is also a XMBC's plugin
    http://sickbeard.com/ <== this is also a XMBC's plugin
    http://www.transmissionbt.com/ <== this is also a XMBC's plugin

    These are the official plugins.

    I still not have the NAS (in Italy this kind of things cost much more than in USA if you buy already build or if you want to build yourself, and the NAS that I would like to build cost about 5500 €, so I don't know when I can have it). So I can't try this plugin to undestand if they are realy usefull, I would only like to know if is possible to have this kind of things for MediaPortal.

    Aright I see were your going but nas is really just a bunch of storage drives. What I see here is a storage server/ back end that's more mp2 but mp1 has some of it.

    Most of the stuff I see can be done with plugin we all ready have but you have to make a list of what you want then start digging.

    If you give me a list I can look some up I'm going to be layer up in bed with nothing to do for 4 days starting tomorrow.

    And don't worry about you English I'm from the us so you speak it better then me :)

    A lot of storage is just what i want! a very big quantity of storage (in my mind about 24 x 4 Tb WD RED in RAIDZ3).
    Alot of storage and a lot of security, much more than NTFS can give me, so I want to build my NAS with ZFS and RAIDZ3 so I'll have 3 HDD redundancy.

    The plugins are:
    https://couchpota.to/
    http://htpc.io/
    http://www.maraschinoproject.com/
    http://sabnzbd.org/
    http://sickbeard.com/
    http://www.transmissionbt.com/ <== there is an extension but needs an update to work with MediaPortal 1.6

    But not these plugins themselves, what I think about is a MediaPortal interface for the FreeNAS plugins (as they originaly have in XBMC).

    For my English, well, thanks a lot.

    I use MediaPortal with my NAS like this:

    1. Setup the NAS' built in torrent client to automatically download my TV-Series to a shared folder called Series
    2. If you download movies to your NAS and want them to appear in MediaPortal, just change the download directory to a shared folder called Movies
    3. Create a shared folder on your NAS for your Online Videos
    4. Setup MediaPortal's plugins that you use (MP TV-Series, Online Videos, Moving Pictures, My Videos etc) and point them to your shared NAS folders
    5. If your NAS has a web interface, either use another computer to add Movie Downloads that you can't schedule like series or configure one of the Web Browser plugins in MediaPortal to access it

    I use my laptop to administer my NAS, I don't find the thought of doing this inside a Media Center application very convenient. My NAS has mobile apps though, so I I ever wanna download something on-the-fly, I can do this even when I'm not at home.

    Yah that's pretty much how I have mine I just remote in I use amber media manger for the moves and the tv show just go right in the folder from utorrent rss down loader.
    But some of the links look pretty neat I'm have to read more. The problem I have is torrents nameing is very hit of miss with auto downloads some of these might fix it.
