MediaPortal freezes during startup (1 Viewer)

Synopsis::

When i try to start MediaPortal, it just seems to freeze. I see my desktop, but can't click anything. Actually, I can use keyboard commands like Alt+F4 to return to the desktop, so I think MediaPortal is in the foreground (but "transparent"). When the program is running, it utilizes the CPU by 100% until i quit it with Alt+F4.

At first, I installed the program and configured "everything". To see if there was any configuration problem, I uninstalled MediaPortal, installed it again and did a very basic configuration. This did not seem to help.

Am I the only person experiencing this? I tried the same program (RC3 I think) on another computer, and it worked without problems (well, some minor bugs, but at least it started) :?

Another question: Does MP rely on any new 3D-graphics or such? I have an old 3dfx Voodoo3 card installed, mainly because of the fanless design. If needed, I can replace this with a (noisy) GeForce4, from nVidia I think.

Looks like your graphicscard isnt up for it.
Voodoo3 agp 16Mb?
And the other machine, which graphicscard do you have there?

Yeah something like that... The other machine has a Ati Radeon 9700 (mobile) I think. But why does the interface need a recent graphics card?

Because it uses directx9, and needs a card that supports this.

Jupp, tried it myself on an Matrox G-450 32Mb and it didnt work that well.
It doesnt have to be top of the line. Starts with Nvidia FX5200 and up.
I recommend at least GF 6200 TurboCache. Can pick it up rather cheap now.

Hmm... this is only a GeForce 4. Isn't that good enough? Maybe I should try Linux instead =)

My Gigabyte 6600GT Heatpipe doesnt make a sound.
Most GF from 5200 to 6200 is fanless.
