I have mediaportal running in my living room, works great. Now I would like to be able to see the recordings and movies in other rooms. I just want to be able to play (stream) the recorded files and the movies/music on the harddrive. I do not need to be able to set recordings or watch TV through the frontend.
For this purpose I have an old Inspiron laptop that is now DirectX 9 compatible (too old). So I cannot use the Mediaportal TVserver Client. The laptop hardware should be fine for just playing video though.
What application should I use? I just need a mediaplayer that plays off shared netdrives and remote control support (MS MCE remote).
I have looked at Geexbox, but it is too tedious to setup w. samba shares and remote support.
MythTV has a Windows Frontend, which might work. Does it play the dvr files?
Anybody else have a suggestion for a better application pref. in Windows?
Thanks!
