MediaPortal is perfect running on my HTPC. It would be great if I could grab my external drive (with all the movies, photos, MP3s), bring it over to someone else, run MediaPortal from that same drive without a need to install it and be able to at least use it as basic jukebox (browse my collection with all the coverart and information and launch stuff).
Could I somehow do it with the current release or do you guys think it would be a nice future option?
Thanks!

There seemes to be very little in the regestery, so that would only leave things like requirieing directX to be installed and that sort of thing, have you tried it, it might work.

There are prerequisites on the OS though (patches, directx versions etc), some of which are stored in the mediaportal setup, e.g. the hardware (drive letters, TV card, sound card) and/or software (codecs etc.). These would have to be the same on each PC you plugged your external drive into.

That said if you're just using the music function as a jukebox you would at least have to ensure the drive letter assigned was the same on each PC (or you could try to change this to a relative path) and set the music "Sound Device" to "Default DirectSound Device", that might work.
