Does anyone know whether there is a mediaport light now available / being developed?

I just want something universal to watch TV with.
However my olidsh PCs usually run into problems with the ultra large unwieldy, jack of all trades full version.

This means that I have always reverted to the basic software supplied with the TV card. Be it Hauppauge software or BlazeTV etc.

For TV watching I have so far found Mediaportal best avoided.

I don't play my music on my PC.

For recording movies/TV am happy to just click and play so don't need that.
And I only have 1 PC so don't need server functionality.

Years ago I recall putting Mediaportal on a girlfriends laptop because she never liked the Lifeview software.
However she found things so clunky and slow that she removed Mediaportal and stayed with Lifeview.

Maybe it is and always has been just for enthusiasts with 6 PC's and just not for your bog standard TV viewer.

Nope I have it on 1 :), well I lie, we do have it on 2, but they are not connected in any way, they are what we call singleseat setups, with there own TVServer\TVCards.

The main requirement is a Directx GPU with a minimal of 128mb, even a lot of new laptops do not have this, remember MP's has more in common with games than normal software, hence the higher gaming specifications, sorry but thats how its been designed.

MP2 will have a more relaxed spec'd setup.

the ways the the tv server is designed now is great, you can have single seat and if needs be extend it to more clients.
if you just want tvl then install the inbuilt tv engine and just disable all the other bits you dont require in the plugins section in config

I think the name "TV Server" makes people think they dont need it when theres only one PC.

So true, we already though over a year ago that it should be renamed to "tv service" so that users aren't getting wrong ideas about the name. But who am I to judge? In today's world you are living in a moment where everything is judged by the outlook, not the actual content... People tend to have short (or non existent) attention span.

Whatever the name - its still the best bit of software I run! I love the TV Server! If only other developers had it working in their apps too (plex/xbmc/meedio etc!!)

I got an update for Lifeview DVB player which works. Their web site was down for weeks.

Lifeview software uses 30% of a slow CPU. Media Center 100% and pixelates bad.
Could not get Mediaportal to work at all.
