mediaportal on an iomega screenplay .. (1 Viewer)

hi

been searching and reading the forum, but i haven't seen any suggestions about installing mediaportal on a standalone media centre like the iomega screenplay.

which is this ..

It's a 320GB hard drive media player with a scart socket, composite video e.t.c..

I'd basically want to reformat it, install windows xp and then install mediaportal so I can start archiving my DVD collection on to it (and possibly my MP3's if I have enough space)

The deploy tool looks pretty straightforward, so i'm probably just going to jump in 2 feet first and see how I go

just wondered if anyone has managed to get mediaportal set up on a device like the screenplay and if so, what was the overall performance like?

haha .. ok .. that fills me with confidence

if i can't do it, i'm going to try linux and the entertainer portal which looks quite nice.

it doesn't help that the screenplay doesn't have a keyboard or mouse ..

i might use this thread to update my progress(or lack of...) if that's ok ..

My bet is that you can't install anything that will run on it.

i'd rather find out now, instead of trying half a dozen different things on it ..

i've just tried installing windows XP on it, but that didn't take ... i know there's methods of installing linux directly onto USB sticks to make that bootable, so I might try that next.

i'll be rather annoyed if i can't really - i've been looking forward to getting this for a while based on being able to re-install different software onto it - you can reformat it to FAT32 or NTFS ...

i've just plugged the unit in to the TV actually to see what happens and I do think the penny has dropped - a little.

i think the software on the unit is basically hardcoded into the ROM, because I reformatted the drive to install windows onto it and all it did was create a new folder ..
