I have a HP Z556 XPMC HTC, I am thinking of installing MP and converting into a MP HTC, any suggestions, ideas? Did someone tried this before and what were the results? The original RAM is 512MB, I am planning to upgrade it to 2GB Max allowed
Thanks in advance,

Hi, I have an HP z556 and had some minimal test experience running MediaPortal. Basically it installed and ran smooth on the Z556. I did not have time to fully test or get everything configured like the OEM IR senders or the MP channel guide. As far as video, audio, DVD drive, wireless keyboard, remote, usb ports and A/V ports worked. I didn't get to test all A/V ports so that's not confirmed. For me the key to get it going, is to get the IR sender working for my DISH 301 box and the channel guide.

Did you get your z556 to work fully with MP? If so, I would like to read your comments. Also was looking into SageTV, downloaded a trial version and installed nicely too. But the IR senders we're not straight forward.

Again, time was not on my side, so I couldn't work on it enough to dig deep and make it work, if it's possible.

I have a z552.fr (see my system for details) and I'm running MP without any (h/w related) issues. Note that the spec for the French machine is a little different. My machine has 1MB of memory.

Started on the MS MCE system, but then moved to XP prof.

It worked fine with the original TV tuner card, but I now have two black gold DVB-T tuners. The remote works like an MCE remote so no issue, although I use HIP and the message plugin to also control external h/w. I use the MCE display plugin and that works fine too (although no 24h clock).

I'm much happier with MP that I was with MCE.

So, to get the external box working, I need to install HIP & the message plugin? I will try that.

Depends what you mean with external box.

I use HIP to control MP through the message plug-in and the audio amplifier with the IR blaster. To control a settop box you should use the IR suite. With the IR suite there is no need for HIP.
