Mediaportal on XP 64 bit (1 Viewer)

Hello Folks,

*This is a repost to my two other posts in "newbies" and "support". Due to unsatisfactory responses, I am writing in this group to make it visibile to developers/maintainers/..*

I am a new member to this community and have recently built a HTPC with Q6600, nVidia 1GB 9500GT, 3 Tb HD and is hooked to a 52" Sammy as a primary monitor. It is running Xp Pro Sp2 64 bit. I was elated to see that I can use mediaportal on my new htpc but when I tried installing 1.0Rc4 I get "OS not supported" error. I have tried getting some answers in the newbie forum but was not of much help.

Since the newer intel chips are enabled for WOW64 support I fail to understand why there is a hard check and isolation on the Xp 64 bit OS. I am hoping to elevate the concern by posting in this forum and volunteering to help if some tech savy testers are needed for Xp 64 bit OS. Any developers/maintainers of mediaportal here??

Any suggestions to 'hack' and install mediaportal will also be very helpful.

hi,and welcome to the mediaportal community i think maybe the reason why it's not supported it's because you are using SP2 and not SP3,so if you install XP SP3 x64 or Vista SP1 x64 MP work great..I didn't tryed on XP SP2 x64 only on Vista Sp1 x64 and on this one works.

Thank you for the suggestions folks. I was able to install the 0.2 version and it is partially working (e.g. the weather plugin gives an error). Now need to read the forums to see whether I can 'upgrade' to 1 Rc* without doing a clean install and avoid the OS checks while getting the functionality of MP working.

At this point I do not have a tv tuner card and most of the issues seen here have been related to it. So I have my hopes up!

I don't think I have the skills to contribute very much in making MP running on XP x64, but I would really like to try!

Here and there I see people asking why anyone wish to run XP x64 on at HTPC, but when I first have built myself a HTPC with 4GB RAM it feels OK having the possibility to use them all! And when it comes to XP vs. Vista, I feel XP is the best alternative (consuming less resources).

So far Windows XP x64 have caused me strange network problems (no 32bit applications seems to have network access, while Internet Explorer 64bit had). Never figured out what was wrong, but a fresh install fixed it. Had to be a little "clever" to install Windows Live Messenger 9, but the Hauppauge DVB-S2 card installed nicely. The WinTV application from Hauppauge workes fine when it comes to uncoded SD channels (haven't found any uncoded HD channels to test).

At this moment the MP installation is preventing me from testing MP. Despite MP's lack of support for XP x64, I would like to give it a try since I have XP x64 up and running with drivers to all my hardware. I also have the impression that several people are running MP sucessfull on Server 2003 (and also XP x64?), so I think it is a fair chance to get it working

Don't know what to expect from writing this, but if anyone have a trick to force the installer on XP x64, please tell me! It would ofcourse also be very appreciated if anyone (with time) manages to make MP fully support XP x64!

* AMD ATHLON64 DUAL-CORE 4850E (2.5GHZ) SOCKET AM2 L2=512KBX2 CPU RETAIL BOX (chosen mainly for it's low power consumption)
* KINGSTON DDR2 HyperX PC8500 4096MB CL5, Kit 2x matched HyperX 2GB DDR2
* SAMSUNG F1 1TB 3.5" SATA2 7200RPM 32MB
* HAUPPAUGE WinTV-NOVA-HD - Satellite S2 receiver HD ready

* HAUPPAUGE WinTV-NOVA-TD-HD USB DVB-T Mpeg4 (planning to connect this one, but have the impression that Hauppauge supllies x64-drivers)

A suggestion by an user "Paul3" works well and I have Mediaportal release 1.0 working on my XP64. I do not have a tuner card and therefore cannot comment on that. Follow the instructions available in https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...53/installing-xp-pro-64-bit-50488/index2.html and maybe I can walk you through if things don't work? Look for instructions from "Paul3" which involves installing "Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit".
