Mediaportal Popularity (1 Viewer)

I was just looking at a couple of download site looking for R2 download and I noticed the amount of downloads from previous editions. I knew Mediaportal was popular, but this surprised me.

Softpedia.com over 52,600 downloads
majorgeeks.com over 53,000 downloads
cnet downloads over 27,000 downloads
brothersoft over 3,500 downloads
sourceforge over 54,000 downloads
fileforum over 24,000 downloads


This was just a few sites I found rather quickly. There is no telling how many total downloads this popular media software has.

MediaPortal versions are also often included on CD's of print magazines. So it is very hard to tell how many times it is really installed out there.

We could add a few lines of code which would allow us to have MediaPortal installations to report at our webservers, but users will mostlikely not approve such.
But on our new homepage we will share some nice stats about MediaPortal.

Btw. 55000 downloads on sourceforge is only for 1.1.0 RC2. *edit* Typo - ofc i meant RC1 not 2
If you take all MP releases since 0.2.3 into account, then we have ~2 Million downloads on sourceforge alone.

As we are going for statistics, MP forum currently has online 1327 users (298 members and 1029 guests)

XBMC on the other hand has 459 (71 members and 388 guests)

Meedios sadly 5 online (3 members 2 guests)

GB-PVR 139 online (9 members 130 guests)

While that is a nice statistic, I'm afriad it may just mean that most people don't need to join the XBMC forum because it works very well out-the-box and the documentation is very good.

Neither XBMC, nor MP forums are only for support.

Most traffic goes to the community plugins and skin sections in both projects.
