Hi Everybody,

Since my first post about 6 months ago I've managed to rip all of my DVD's and CD's and build my MP dream machine from an old(ish) Dimension 5150.

I installed the first Hard Disk yesterday and put on a nice fresh copy of XP SP3. It's all updated then I installed MP.

Installation was smooth as every, with MP helping me get the missing Micro$oft files etc. I hooked it up to my TV and tried to sun it for the first time and it sticks on 'Initialising DivX'!!!

I've read every post on th forum about this and have tried most of the suggestions. I've removed the ATI CCC centre crappy software, re-installed Direct X 9, checked my Direct X for updates, applied any update that I could find but still no luck.

I can open the task manager when MP stops on 'Initialising...' and stop MP from there but when I try to launch MP I get the same message again (unlike the guy here who found Task Manager as a temporary way around this.)

If anyone could help or has managed to overcome this issue I would be so greatful for some help. I've been working on this for months and I'll cry if I cant get it to work.

I have MP working on my laptop (a relavtively new Vostro) but it only has a 160GB so its just not practical for me to sun it from there. Plus I've bought 4 internal HDD's and put all my stuff on them.

Thanks Guys

PS I have the watchdog zip file attached

MP logs that it is already running. please restart the system and check the process MediaPortal.exe is not running.

    Hi brokenrobot

Can you fill out system specifications under usercp and enable them to be shown, as 5150 goes way back to 2006, so would be good to know cpu\gpu\memory etc.

    Thanks

OK - All filled in and hopefully you can see my spec. Only thing I couldn't find was the motherboard make.

Yeah ATI suck balls. The ATI card is just the one that came with the PC. I've just bought an Nvidia 8400GS 512 off fleabay for £30 so this should get the rez up a bit higher as this driver lets me set a max res of about 1440 x 900 which is too little for the nice monitor I'm setting it up on.

Thought I'd post this too as it might prove useful to someone one day. After setting the max rez in ATI catalys driver to 1440 x 900 MP looked a bit grainy on my monitor so I just went to the Desktop>Display Properties>Setting> and turned the rez up to 1920 x 1080. Then, when I try and start up Media Portal my PC stutters and I get the message "switching to the reference rasterizer" My machine became unuseable and MP refused to start like this so I went back to Display Settings, turned it back down to 1440 x 900 and now it runs fine again.

    Hi brokenrobot

The one thing that always sticks in my mind, is bandwidth on the motherboard, if it struggles to cope, especially with only 1gb of memory, most of that is taken running the OS, let alone MP, so if you have a bottleneck, suspect it's there.

Know anypne with a spare gig of your memory, just might help a lot :p
