Congratulations and many thanks to this media software!
After Windows MCE, Linux MCE and several other failures I tried, I found MediaPortal, which is one of the greatest media solutions, with integration of VLC player (old version 8.4) and Shoutcast (sky.fm is a favourite) it plays now any media content of the neighbourhood network content, included h264, mkv and mp4, also TV, picture folders and music files (FLAC and mp4 is not tested now, because everything here is converted to mp3 due to several players in the neighbourhood). This was not to achieve by other MCEs.
It`s possibly not perfect, switching between the features causes sometimes problems, if you forget to switch back to main screen, it hangs up for a while and needs to be restarted.
But the concept of the open source development should grant a great future and shall be donated, I will do this also the next days.
Used hardware:
MSI Media Live Barebone AMD X2 5200 2 GB and 80 GB HD*
OS for MediaPortal Windows XP 32 bit with all available updates
Windows- style remote
Hauppauge WinTV Nova S2 PCI card
Analog VGA- monitor and DVI connected projector 1024 x 768
Logitech 5.1 sound
Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse
* 15 GB for OS and MP, data are supplied by NFS- servers around. All other is Linux system.
Installation as a stand- alone- system, which (may be) is not the best solution.
Summary:
MediaPortal V1 RC3 is working perfectly, but not “out of the box”, you have to make several “experiments” to get it running as you like. You have to read the WIKI very intensively and you have to take care, that not the newest drivers are the best.
RC4, RC5, RC6 etc. will hopefully follow in the next time
