Hi everybody.

I'm new here and having a bit of trouble finding my way. I read the FAQ and tried searching for "multiple remotes" "multiple controllers" and the like - i didn't find what i was looking for - so here goes - i hope i won't get slaughtered if it was asked/answered before :(

I'm the lucky owner of both a MEDION X11 remote and a Windows MCE remote. I bought a MEDION multimedia PC and it came with the X11 - i later installed MCE and bought the MCE remote because i didn't think the X11 would work on MCE. Anyways i'm sick and tired of MCE and installing Media Portal on the PC.

My question is then - which controller should i use? The MCE controller looks nicer and has more comfy buttons - the X11 on the other hand have buttons for Teletext etc (it has more buttons period). A lot of features seem impossible with the MCE remote? Or am i wrong? Also could i use both if i wanted to? Say use the MCE one, but for special features whip out the X11 (then map the buttons to shortcuts i normally wouldn't need).

Hoping for some input :D

If the only difference is the number of buttons then on the surface you should go with the X11. But then, I can say from my own experience that the MCE remote has plenty of buttons. Easily enough to use with MediaPortal.

When you say that "A lot of features seem impossible with the MCE remote?", what features do you have in mind?

I think you'll probably find you can do more with the MCE remote than you can with the X11. But I have been wrong before. :)

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the feedback!

Out of the blue i can only remember stuff like "teletext"/TTV? - is that the right name? You know the oldstyle "tv-browser". I forgot now, but i just recall a lot of buttons on the X11 i felt was missing on the MCE one. That said, i'm not a really feature-hogger and if you think the MCE control is good enough i bet it is. I guess some menues etc. can be opened by accessing a menu in MP istead of a one-button click and that's good enough for me...

Oh yeah i was thinking of features like "change subtitle language" and "change audio channel" for playing back DVD's. I got a few movies i like to watch in their original language (english) but when my son is watching i like to be able to swap to the danish soundtrack - also when watching with my wife we slap on the danish subtitles to the english soundtrack. In MCE this seemed almost impossible - well you could go to setting and change the default playback language/subtitle but that was a pretty tedious operation.

Use the MCE remote and press the info button, to bring up more playback options.

Never found a remote that is more intuitive than the MS one (gags).

This sounds good. This feature was not available in Windows MCE 2005 :p Well you can press info and get some options, but nothing to change subtitle or language. Perhaps MP is better than MCE - i seriously hope it is

Anyways i'm putting my faith in MP and the MCE control!

Oh yeah just wanted to add i finally got MP up and running with MCE control - MP is SWEET - much better than MS MCE... subtitles on DVB-T, compression, nicer OSD etc...

I'm the somewhat lucky owner of a not supported medion hybrid card not supported, but i managed to add support for the DVB-T part only, which will do for now :) MCE only had support for the DVB-T part as well, so on that part it's on par with MCE - giving MP the lead ;)
