Menu click iterference when using remote (1 Viewer)

I recently got an ATI Radeon HD 3450 video card for my PC. It has HDMI on it and I was able to switch my AUDIO from outputting off my onboard on the motherboard to using HDMI. I output from the HDTV to the surround sound system via AV cables.
Before I switched I would output, like I said, from the motherboards onboard audio via a 3.5mm to AV cable cord.

Since swithing to HDMI for audio I notice a "click clunk" from the surround sound speakers when I move thru the mediaportal menus. Sure, mediaportal has its own fancy click sound but this sounds more like interference from something. The faster I scroll thru the menus the faster the "click clunk". I haven't noticed any of this behavior with VLC or Media Player... so I'm assuming its somehow related to the remote.

The remote is ran thru a Hauppauge capture card.

I noticed that when a video is player in mediaportal and I go to the menus while the video is still playing that I do not experience this 'interference'

Any ideas? Its driving my wife nuts.. she likes to watch TV at rediculous volumes and after a TV show when she goes back to the menu the 'interfernce' clicking is super loud.

I would try turning off MP menu sounds first to confirm that it is something external to MP. Then try turning off all windows system sounds. This will at least narrow it down.
