I'm running the current 2.2 release on a clean and as up to date as possible XP Profession install...

If I purchase this remote from New.Egg.com

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880100851

(Do any site sponsors offer this package so I can support your work as well?)

Will it work with the native MCE remote support???

Thanks in advance for your help!

    :D

It is a Microsoft MCE remote, so yes, it will work.

However, I suggest you try to get a European model of this remote. It is distinct due to an additional four coloured buttons. They are called the Teletext buttons, but you can use them for anything.

It's not a big difference, but it's worth knowing before you buy. Aside from that they are the same.

So yes, it will work straight out of the box.

    Cheers,

Just to expand on Aaron's response, the coloured buttons are crucial in my opinion.
By default they allow things like a sigle key to switch between fullscreen and gui (red button), easilly change aspect rations with one button (blue) and easilly bring up the context menu, same as right clicking (yellow). can't live without those in my view.

    Where can I find one?

Sounds like the European model is the way to go...

Where can I find one??? I've Googled my fingers off and can't find one that will ship to the U.S.

    Thanks for your help!

It should work with MediaPortal out of the box. No configuration required. But it could be that you have a non-standard receiver (like the kind that might be wired into a TV Card?) You should do a search of the forums and see what you can find, if that doesn't work, start a new thread in the support area.

I don't know what to say, it should work.

Just make sure that in the MediaPortal Setup under Remotes you have a tick in the box in the section for the MCE Remote.

    good luck,
