Whenever I try to set up the MediaPortal TV Server I get the following error..

"Connection failed! An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to the SQL Server 2005, this failure may by caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.

(provider: Named Pipes Provider , error: 40 - could not open a connection to SQL Server."

What could be the problem I'm facing? Alternatively, I know what my login and password is but I'm not exactly sure what to put in the hostname and service fields. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Could you give us more info about your config?
Is your "SQL Browser" service started? It is needed to "discover" a named SQL Server instance..

Bye

Bump: I was able to login successfully with my login and password with the help of the link the first person posted above. But whenever I go to My TV, the screen is black with the message 'Missing or invalid file' on it. Now I'm stumped. Can someone give me some pointers?

    frasier:

Are you running the same MediaPortal SVN as the TV Server SVN? I have had that error when I forget to update both to the same SVN version.

    Hope that helps,
