since my mother got her new notebook, i could have her old midi tower.
i changed the front and painted the case in silver.
the new front is made of wood.
    the cdrom is stealth modded.
left and right from the power switch are two leds indicating power and hdd activity.

this is the case i started with:
    the front:

and the rest of the case

this is the new front with the right holes in it

the case a little bit "adjusted" to fit the new front

the case, now with silver sides

the front now in silver too

the back of the front with wires for the power switch and leds

    the stealth modded cdrom

    the modded pc

    costs:
    woodplate 1€
    lacquer 7€
    leds & switch 9€

    total:
    ~17€

Thats pretty cool, nice work. Too bad you didn't have a piece of sheetmetal laying around for the front. Nonetheless, it's still pretty cool you made a desktop case into rack-style HTPC case. How exactly is the case mounted? I think I see some tabs...

what do you exactly mean with "How exactly is the case mounted?"?
the cd-rom is attached with cable tie
the front is mounted with double-sided-tape (like the cd-rom stealth-mod)

In the last two pics the case appears to be rack-mounted, just wondering how you went about that.

    Great work, wertzui!

    I have considered making a wood-HTPC myself - inside this IKEA-thingy

I would like to se some close-ups of the drive-mountings (how did you fasten the DVD-RW?)

I might base it on this:
    llmbt_380.jpg

    .. or a cheap ATX

have a look at the pictures, there you can see, that the cd-rom is mounted with cable tie (the neon yellow)

    Ah... thanks

Off topic: Just measured the "IKEA-thingy" - and lucky me; an NSK-2400 will fit... PERFECTLY
    NSK: 14cm (H) x 44.5cm (W) x 41.4cm (D)
    IKEA: 20cm (H) x 45cm (W) x 44 cm (D)

    :D

    (thanks for the follow-up, anyway)
