Minimum CPU speed requirements (1 Viewer)

Hello - I was wondering if there is a minimum CPU speed necessary for recording just one TV stream (normal digital broadcast signal). I'm not sure what the resolution of the signal is; I use a converter box to get an analog signal because my TV is still old. I read in another article in the forums that said CPU speed is not necessary, just making sure the hard drive can keep up with it, but I'm not sure if the tuner card will factor into this. I have an old 800mhz computer sitting around so if that can be used that is good.

Thanks,
- Eli

Supposedly, the digital signals are captures as-is, so it's a question of whether the HD can keep up - especailly with more than one channel at a time.

That being said, 800MHz is pretty darn old. Can it even run a version of windows supported by MP?

I think the best advice is give it a try - but don't spend a lot of time on it, since my hopes wouldn't be terribly high...

Well, WinXP runs perfectly fine on it and it has an older Radeon 9500 series card in there, so that's what keeping the games running, lol. Most of the tuner cards nowadays seem to be using PCIe interface, and this system only has PCI ports, so that's one of the drawbacks for future-proofing. I'll assume PCIe, with its greater bandwidth over PCI, lets you record more streams?

give it a go, i manage to timeshift and record with a amd 1400. so maybe you can do one of those at a time with yours.

Not sure if you are still considering this, but I did have media portal running on a 866Mhz P3 w/ 256 Mb PC133 RAM. I wasn't pretty, but playback was fine for most settings. Bear in mind I didn't try TV recording / timeshifting and the performance was not particularly encouraging.

That said, give it a go, maybe trying 0.2.3.0 rather than 1.0.0.0 RCx.

I have MP running on an Athlon 900 with 786 MBs of RAM, Win XP MCE (will switch to plain XP in future), and a Radeon 9800 pro. I do not have a TV card, so I mainly use MP for movies.

One thing I notice tho is that the transitions are very slow in MP.. for instance when I am using the Moving Pictures plugin, moving around the list/grid/filmstrip of movies is quite slow. I don't think it is the plugin.

I think the gfx card isn't take on all of the directX stuff and it appears that the CPU is taking some on, causing some slowdowns.

Hopefully going back to XP and using the normal (non-MCE) drivers for the 9800 Pro will solve this issue.
