Hi all

Finally made the jump from 0.1.1.1 to RC4 and must admit the install is very slick. I am having a few issues with my DVB-t cards but that I believe is solvavble.

Unfortunately the WAF has dropped to almost zero due to issues with My Music. I have a large number of mp3's located on a server and my better half was able to spend countless hours playing them. Since I have updated to RC4 many of the song title and artist info just displays as unknown. It still shows correctly from windows explorer. I have also been told that on viewing a directory of songs all the info was there but after changing to another diretory and back again everything just showed unknown.

Any ideas would be appreciated as I am being told to go back to 0.1.1.1 and that just doesn't seem right.

Thanks in anticipation.

Mick

    Hi,
Please use the Template when posting.

Have you tried a svn version for your MP0.2RCx version.

(I moved your post to Support)

i assume that you did a fresh install of RC4, if not it might help to do so.

have you scanned your media library? maybe that solves the problem

There were some significant music database changes in RC3-RC4 that require you rescan your music shares.

Also, if your music is well organized with seperate foders for each album be sure to enable the "Treat tracks in an individual folder as an album" and "Scan albums for Various Artists" options. See Configuratation.exe-->Music-->Music Database.

I have never understood what this option really means....I have each of my albums in separate folders, and some of those folders contain albums by "various artists"...could you please explain this one.... :?

Here's a very simplified overview of what happens when you scan your shares to update the database:

1.) Get a song file from the share folder

    2.) Read the tag info

3.) Using the "Artist" field from the tag, get the idArtist from the database.

3.1) If no idArtist is returned add the "Artist" to the database "artist" table and get the idArtist.

4.) Using the "Album" field from the tag, get the idAlbum from the database.

4.1) If no idAlbum is returned, add the "Album" to the "album" table and assign the idArtist to the album.idArtist field.

This all works fine if all the tracks for a given album are by the same artist. As you can probably guess, if the album is a "Various Artists" album 4.1 creates a problem--the artist id for this track is used as the artist id for the entire album.

"Scan albums for Various Artists" gets around this by looking up all of the tracks for each album and counting the number of different artists after the initial scan has completed. If the number of artists is greater than 1 the idArtist for the album is changed to the "Various Artists" id.

At the time I made the changes, making this an option seemed like a good idea. In reality, this probably shouldn't be an option and should just be performed automatically.

Hope this helps clear things up.

    Steve
