    Hello,

Like some other people here, I tried to display SRT subtitle while playing MKV file.
All try failed except this one :

DirectVobSub filter (version 2.39) from here : Free-Codecs
Download DLL file. Exctract it somewhere you can find it.
    run
    Code:
    Regsvr32 "path_to_the_famous_DLL_file"
in MediaPortal config tool, under "Movies", "Movies Post Processing"
select DirectVobSub (Autoload version) in the bottom pannel and double click on it.
it apears in the top pannel, be sure it is activated.
    Close
    Enjoy :)

    Hope this helps

PS : DirectVobSub complete suite I tried used a previous version of direct show filter and made the movie stop imediately when played back.

This breaks HW acceleration. Does anyone know how to enable display of SRT subtitles in MKV without using DirectVobSub ?

    I didn't know. I don't have hardware acceleration in my system :(

It seams this is not the good solution yet.

Let's continue to think about it...
I guess hardware acceleration is made by... hmm... hardware. It should render the image on top of the rest, so I don't understand how you could have HW acceleration AND srt subs in the same time, except it srt are managed by HW itself.

    Is my view point correct?

Your point makes total sense. Maybe I am looking for something that isn't possible. I was hoping there was a way to overlay the subtitles on top of hardware accelerated video somehow. If it isn't possible, I have to sacrifice subs, because my P4 3.0Ghz rig just can't handle 1080p h.264 which comprises most of my video collection...

At least it should be possible to toggle DirectVobSub post-processing while playing video, not having to leave MP, run config tool and enabling/disabling it there.

Hi,for now it's impossible to have subtitles + HW acceleration in MP...but it's indeed possible to toggle subtitles while playing a video without exiting MP ,i'm using a remote and have a command for that already (if you are using a keyboard i think it's the "L" key)

It's right, but I was referring to toggling DirectVobSub postprocessing (and HW acceleration as a result), not subtitles itself.

You should put subtitles inside MKV file. If you doo this, you don't need to use Postprocesing, so DXVA will be working with video without subtitles.

Indeed, it is a solution, but it doesn't cover my needs.

I needed a solution to easily grab sub for a selected movie and display it inside MP without any other manipulation.

Doesn't work for me. When I try to display subtitles without DirectVobsub postprocessing, MP acts as if subtitles are enabled (shows Subtitles EN 1/1 on top) but nothing is displayed.

It is however possible to get DXVA at the same time as subs. MPC does it. However then MP needs some special subtitle renderer that can do this since it is not possible to do with a postprocessing filter.

What you can do is to configure MP to use MPC as an external player. Then you get DXVA subs but you miss out other things as always when using external player.
