Hi,

Why would you want file type that is really only supported by Apple.
I don't want it, but it's the format my camera uses, and I'll have to deal with it unless I buy a new camera.

MOV files are nasty..i try to stay away from them at all costs..better off converting them..then they work on anything..and ur preference...MP

there are lots of small video editing app that are free... try www.videohelp.com for a converter app
Sure they're nasty, but I have hundreds of tiny movies taken with my still cam. It's not really convient converting them all, as I only watch them eventually.

Anyway, I could manage to get what I wanted:

I was able to play them using WMP in Vista, but there was no way to get MediaPortal internal player deal with them.

Then the fix in the shape of my MPlayer plugin. Allowing this plugin to play .mov files, the files are played integrated within the MP environment. I have the usual controls over the movie, just the OSD is a bit different... but it's fine for me!!!

Regards to everybody!!!

Just to tell you, I have a very similar problem to that of fitto. I have not been able to view the .mov files of my baby girl in MP <sniff>. Have to use MPC for this. Otherwise MP plays 96% of what it is fed, including 1080p .mkvs.

My previous AVI-recording camera broke down. The store gave me the next version of the camera -- and this records .mov files.

Gspot tells me these .mov have Audio-Codec ms: MS ADPCM-ACM and for gfx-codec avc1 H264.

When I play these in MPC they work flawlessly. However, I can't get any info in Graphedit when playing this file. I don't understand why, maybe because of the .mov extension. I therefore renamed a .mov file to .mkv, but then MPC don't give any audio anymore, and Graphedit gives a graph with only gfx info.

I'd wish that MP could mimic MPC in its .mov ability. MPC also always can playback old badly encoded rock video-mpegs which sometimes MP fails to play at all.

In both MP and MPC I use coreAVC for H264-files. AC3 is used for audio in MP. MPC seems to be able to choose the right audio codec to play .mov files. Otherwise it uses AC3.

Could you please tell me how to tweak MP to play these .mov files?

thanks Stardancer! the "quicktime plugin" from Medialooks is the perfect solution!

1- install quicktime (official or alternative)
2- install the medialooks quicktime plugin. This is a directshow filter for any videoplayer to play quicktime files.
3- play any quicktime video with any videoplayer, mediaportal included.

BUT: medialooks filter inserts a big banner on all videos... any idea to remove this?

NOTE: the recently update of quicktime official codecs make qtalternative UNABLE to play the trailers from appletrailers, the only way to do it is download and install the OFFICIAL quicktime player.

If you have problem playing old .mov files (from old compact cameras etc) try using an old version of quicktime alternative that is still based on directshow filters (e.g.1.45) and set the option in MePo video player to use directshow graph building through merits (dont remember the exact name of the check box), that worked for me.

YES!! Installing 1.45 did the trick, strangely enough, sound and video are fine now... Did not had to set the automatic decoder option too...

One of the configurations that works 100% of the time on XP/VISTA (with Apple Trailers) is:

    Splitter: Haali Media Splitter
H264: MPC Video Decoder or CoreAVC or PowerDVD H264
Audio: MPC Audio Decoder (and set AC3Filter as postprocessing filter if desired)

If you have AC3Filter as "postprocessing" filter then MPC Audio Decoder will only fill the gap between Haali and AC3Filter if AC3Filter can't handle the format (in case of Apple Trailer's AAC audio).

Absolutely no need for Quicktime Alternative/Medialooks or Automatic Merit options in MP.

    Hello togheter,

a few days ago I bought a Canon Ixus 870. This camera unfortunately creates mov files. Non problems using MPC. When using Media Portal or Win Media Player audio sounds like Darth Vader. All codecs are assignet to ffdshow. How can I handle this with a general setting for all videos?
