What I would really like is if we could have all settings inside the main app.
At this point when I need to change a setting I need to get my keyboard, close mp, change the setting, start mp again and then put the keyboard back in the cupboard.
It would be so nice to just use my remote :)

Also installing plugins from within the main app would be nice :)

    This is definitely a MP2 suggestion :)

In my opinion, it would be even better if you can change settings for the main app from a remote PC. so your laptop could fire up the configureation app, connect to your HTPC, and away you go. If the setting change requires a restart of MP, then that should then be triggered or delayed until a suitable time.

Then, if there was some kind of API or database connection for the settings, a web frontend could also be used or even an iPhone/PDA interface.

I'm afraid I completely disagree with this as a general statement. Have you ever tried to configure vista media centre with 1000+ satellite channels (fiji tv pack) using the VMC front end? It takes about a week! That is one of the main reasons I switched to MP from VMC - the separate config app for the difficult stuff.

there are certain basic / frequently adjusted items that belong in the 10foot UI for a media center app, and on the other hand there are certain complex / infrequently adjusted items that definately are best done with a keyboard and mouse at 2 foot from a monitor. Adding plugins, configuring tv channels, are all firmly in the latter camp.

MP has some settings changeable in the UI already. There are probably one or two things that would be nice to change from the MP UI, that aren't currently there. So I'd say, specific requests would make more sense and be more likely to get developer attention. Lipsync delay would be my top one (whilst a prog is playing) although that isn't even an MP feature at all today..:(

@funkstar - you can rdp to your HTPC from your laptop to run mediaportal config already? thats what I do, it works well (of course MP has to be closed to do it, but thats no great hardship).

    cheers

Thats what I do already soo. But being able to run the actual config app on a remote system and getting it to connect to the server/database directly would be very handy. Especially if you had several clients to configure :)
