[QUOTE="dir, post: 757191, member: 24485"] follw.it is kind of interesting, but it's way too slow and cumbersome to be used by friends that want to know what movies you have. I have quite a large collection and all my friends want is a listing of my movies. follw.it is too slow because it tries to 'pretty up' the listing (in list format) and adds a lot of white space. The result is that the user has to scroll forever for each page of movies, and has no way of jumping around from page to page. They can searrch for a movie, true, but they can't, for instance, just jump to "Page 5 of 67" like in a forum thread, for example. I get a lot of people asking for a listing, and all they want is a text file or excel spreadsheet with my movies. I'm currently importing an XML export file and saving it as an Excel spreadsheet with MovieName, Year, Genres, IMDBRef, Rating, and Resolution as the only columns. People love it - it's quick to send them, they can view it anywhere, and it has all the info they need. I'm still not sure what the ulterior motive of follw.it is - currently it seems to exist to record what I have and what I watch, and allows me to tell others that info. I suspect the aggregation of all that information is worth something to 3rd parties, which is probably ultimately the value of follw.it once it has a large enough following to be worth selling. I'm not being paranoid, I'm just aware of all this social network-style development going on and I can't see why anyone would spend so much time and effort developing follw.it unless they plan to sell the value of aggregated statistical data on it's users.
