Moving recordings to a NAS (1 Viewer)

Hi All,
I'm having trouble setting the folder for recordings to a NAS (also for the timeshift buffer). Currently the NAS is \\192.168.1.20\topshare and is mapped as Y: but MP appears not to be able to write to it, I can play recordings OK.

I've tried various things like setting the login for TVServer to be the same as the one running MP, the permissions look OK (I've enabled all permissions for everyone on the share), the NAS is open to everyone with full permissions and no login. I can create and read files on the NAS when logged in as that user, which also has admin priveleges. Curiously MP doesn't complain, the red recording icon is displayed as normal but no recordings are made.

I've read about setting UNC paths rather than mapped drive path in TVServer->Recording->Folders, however the GUI won't let me add a full path (I was hoping to use \\192.168.1.20\topshare\recordings rather than Y:\recordings). I can't browse the network either as the NAS doesn't advertise its presence.

Is there a config file, database entry or registry entry I can manually change?

Make an user account on the tv server pc with rights to write to the nas and change the tvserver service to use this user instead of localsystem account.

This help?

Thanks, but I've already done that and it had no effect. I think it's the UNC path thing but can't modify the path in the GUI.

OK, I think I've sorted it. I decided to focus on why I couldn't browse the network for the NAS and there were two problems: The netbios ports on my linux based NAS were only open for TCP and apparently some require UDP as well, and the workgroup for my server was wrong! I haven't fully tested yet but it appears to be working so far. Thanks for the replies.
Edit: One more thing, in Network and Sharing Center, under the Change advanced sharing settings, I had to change the HomeGroup connections to 'Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers' instead of the default 'allow Windows to manage homegroup connections'.

All appears to be working well now after I sorted out the stuff below (posted for reference):

After I had moved files from the local drive to the NAS I had to import them back into the database, but I had done that with the mapped drive as the current recordings path not the UNC path. After I changed the recordings path to UNC and done some testing I was left with a database that had a mixture of UNC and mapped drive paths, which meant some recordings could be deleted and some not. The fix to this was relatively simple, I needed to re-import with the new UNC paths. This is how I did it (and this is also simple way to move recordings from one folder to another):

1) With MP shut down but TVService still running, rename the recordings folder on the NAS to something different.
2) Run TV-Server Configuration, in 'Recording->Database import' tab click 'Remove invalid entries'. Because the NAS folder now has a different name this will flag up all of your recordings as being invalid (one at a time) and ask whether you want to delete the entry, click 'yes' to each one.
3) Rename your recordings folder on the NAS back to what it was before.
4) Close TV-Server Configuration and restart the TV Service (type services into the search bar in the start menu, browse to TV Service, right click. Stop, then start it).
5) Run TV-Server Configuration again, select 'Recording->Database import' tab. Because you had deleted all the entries, and the recording path now matches the actual NAS folder containing the recordings, you'll see a list of recordings not in the database (which should be all of them).
6) Make sure all recording files listed are ticked (should be by default), and click 'Import selected files'.
7) Close Close TV-Server Configuration and restart MP.

That's it! It's strange how some parts of MP work quite happily with mapped drives but other parts don't, it can be a bit confusing trying to work out what is going on sometimes ;-)
