Why can't the Importer RegEx those typical pattern out?
Because there are no (or way too many) typical pattern. Everyone is writing them different. And those pattern are always garbage only, not needed for anything. So why on earth should we slow down the import process that much especially as there is an easy fix for this available? RegEx is time consuming especially on weak systems so you better don't use it if not really needed...
Aside this, if you are using local metadata (as suggested) you can name your videos completely as you like... Even "MyMovie #001.avi. MyMovie #002.mp4,... " is working then.

Is this written in python or why do you think removing typical pattern like "720p" is time consuming?
There are common pattern used all over the net.

Where's the benefit of editing each movie added to the library? MovingPictures provided the possibility to change the search string. Now I have to look up the movieDB-ID.

But your way is the only one and the best one. Whatever. Just close this.

Don't feel offended please. :) Lehmden sometimes has a quite "rustic" style, but it's certainly not meant personal.

Now I have to look up the movieDB-ID.
It is usually sufficient to name the movie as in TheMovieDB and add the year in brackets. Only if that name is not unique, will the system return a "not found", which can be avoided by an additional unique identifier, the movie ID. The new "Reimport" feature can also give you selections to choose from if the search returns more than one possibilityWe have also given guidance how to distinguish between different versions and have for example appear

I had been on MP1 for years and was also using MovingPictures, however, do like the MP2 way of handling things better. MP2 is an independent product. We don't aim at "converting" people. If you feel that MP2 doesn't meet your requirements, well, then so be it.

Notwithstanding, there is of course a RegEx filter process in place that can be extended, however, we cannot cover each hypothetical scenario. The discussion would be easier if you gave precise examples of file names that are not recognized to see if a simple adjustment at our site would make things work for you.

It doesn't find anything for a file named "passengers.mkv". This is not hypothetical. There are pattern in the wild, used by nearly everyone.
Looking up every Movie at moviedb and changing the filename accordingly is quite the opposite of an automated import process.

    "Silicon Valley" is not recognized.
    "Succession" as well.

    "Passengers"
    "The Wolf of Wallstreet"
"Thor The Dark Kingdom SBS 2013"
    "Tron Legacy SBS"
    "Wall-e 1080p"
    "Zombieland 720p"
    "Burn-e 1080p"
    "Star Wars 7"
    "Star Wars IV 1977"
    ...

It's not that I do have cryptic file names.

From an API search perspective you do ;)

    "Silicon Valley" is not recognized.
Searching this on TheTvDb returns seven hits. The solution is to either add the year or - much better - the TvDb series ID 277165. Calling the parent folder 'Silicon Valley 277165" will get you what you want.

    "Passengers"
Good example. "Passengers" will return two hits on imdb.com, one from 2008 and the other one from 2016. There's no possibility for any system to return the right result. So either rename the file to "Passengers (2016)" or do a reimport and select the right entry.

    "Tron Legacy SBS"
Same as above, only that you now have three different possibilities, 2010 and two different one from 2011.

    "Wall-e 1080p"
For your resolution you'll need to differentiate this by appropriately separating the resolution info in the file name, otherwise it will be interpreted as part of the movie name to be looked up. Please check the explanations that we provided in the Wiki for setting up media items.

    "Star Wars 7"
With all due respect, but that's not a movie title. You should call this by its official name and it will be recognized. Not sure if this is 'The last Jedi' or something else.

Yes, but it's not returning all hits but nothing. the list ist empty when trying to "reimport".

for silicon valley it's empty as well as for Passengers. Although the search (and I guess the API as well) returns enough results for a query "passengers".
    there is nothing to select.

"Star Wars IV 1977" search results in attached pictures. mp2 vs. themoviedb.
This example shows that my file naming isn't bad.

And for silicon valley: after adding the "thetvdb"-ID to the folder name it scrapes 4 of 5 seasons. season 1 is missing. no idea why. so please don't tell me that i don't get the new concept and it's basically my faulty approach.

Even the shitty "Star Wars 7" returns the correct movie at themoviedb.org

Look, I was trying to help you by telling you what to do. Take it or leave it.

Series info is based on TheTvDb. If a season info is not returned it may be due to the site. Check the log.
Movie info is based on IMDb info where you Star Wars 7 is not unique.

Again, I have hundreds of episodes and movies and they are all found by MP2.

    Hi,

to support what HTPCSourcer says I have many movies and series and everything is recognized by MP2 without any error. My media collection is supported by .nfo files for each movie or series episode which I generated with the help of Media-Buddy

I have also still an install of MP1 with Moving Pictures and MPTV Series as a comparison. They use the same media files. Everything is also recognized there but I am also using the .nfo file scraper in Moving Pictures to get best results.

To get the best results you need to have some proper naming convention for your files and sort each movie in its own folder. Series episodes go in folders as S01, S02, S03 etc. I can set up my media collection from scratch as often as I want in MP2 and it always recognizes each video file. Plus it works in Kodi too.

If you think MP2 is not as good as MP1 then MP1 is your road to the future. No one is telling you it is a 'must' to use MP2.

    Cheers
