I did some research on the forums, installed ffdshow codecs from Free-Codecs.com : Download FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder 2009-10-22, FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder 2009-10-22 and FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder 2009-09-17 SSE : FFDSHOW is a DirectShow decoding filter Made a MKV file from one of my DVDs using MakeMKV, put it in my Moving Pictures folder. MovingPictures found it, pulled the fan art etc and everything worked fine. Problem arised when I tried to run it. Got this error: Unable to play file Video Codec: V_MPEG2 Audio Codec: AC3 Any idea where I can start to debug this. I'm brand new to MediaPortal and am still figuring it out. Not sure how the default media player works in Media Portal, where the codecs are, which ones it uses etc. Thanks guys. ______________________________________________________________________________ PS. MediaPortal goes to a blank screen after I exit this error and I cant navigate, have to end task via task manager. Here is a list of my codecs. I dont know which ones are related to MP and which ones I need. I'd like to delete them all and start fresh but dont want to screw anything up. Thanks, _______________________________________________________________________________ Update: I downloaded VLC to try and view the file. It opens, plays perfectly with sound, but as soon as I try to scroll further in the movie, it closes VLC. Not sure if this is relevant to my MediaPortal problem but I thought I would update the thread anyway. Thanks, ______________________________________________________________________________________ Urrrggg FFS - VLC has a know bug with subtitles. I disabled subtitles, and now can navigate the movie. Its works fine + sound. Image quality using VLC to play the MKV file doesnt look as nice as using Power DVD to play from the DVD drive (PDVD has richer colors, brighter, better contrasts). Any ideas? ______________________________________________________________________ Update: Playing with ffdshow audio and video settings: 1) For AC3 should I use liba52 or libavcodec? 2) For MPEG 2, should I use libmpeg2 or libavcodec _______________________________________________ Update: Got it working. Was missing the Hallii file splitter. Still having a problem with image quality.
