MP 1.0.1: Subs don't show, on MP1.0.0 they worked fine (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone,

I've just updated to MP1.0.1 and noticed the following problem:

While MP1.0.0 plays MKV-containers with embedded Subtitles just fine,
MP 1.0.0 doesn't.

  • During playback in MP1.0.0 "DirectVobSub" shows up as a Taskbar-Icon, and subtitles work fine. I can even toggle between different languages with L-Key in MP. Additionally, HaaliMediaSplitter appears as a TaskIcon, also showing the same subtitle-selection as DirectVobSub.
  • If I'm using MP1.0.1 (Update as well as clean install scenario), however, the DirectVobSub doesn't show up as a TaskBarIcon. I can still toggle subtitle languages with L-key in MP, and this change also can be seen in HaaliMediaSplitter, however, no subtitles display at all.

I imagine this can't be too big a problem, as it works fine with MP1.0.0 on the same system (no changes made to codecs whatsoever...).

I just don't have a clue as where to make changes to the configuration.

I don't have AVISynth installed on that system. Maybe the Subtitle decoder usage by MP can be configured with that tool.

I also tried in MP Config under Video -> External Codecs to activate DirectVobSub.
However, that didn't help to make DirectVobSub appear again with MP1.0.1

Any help very much appreciated.

Best regards,

Heiko

    Hi,

I played a little around with the same stuff yesterday. My findings with videos
    - divX/xvid + external .srt
    - .mkv (h264 up to 720p) + external .srt
    - .mkv (h264 up to 720p) with embedded subs:

    MP 1.0.0:

    - I had to set DirectVobSub as postprocess filter in MP to get subtitles work (I guess this loaded the external subs)
    - I had to set Haali splitter not to autoload DirectVobSub (not to get double loaded)
    - MP Configuration -> videos -> audio/subtitles checkbox "show subtitles" activated (I guess this loaded the embedded subs)
    - I had my subtitles in a separate folder ("subtitles") besides the films and were loaded from this folder

    MP 1.0.1:
the same config resulted in "unable to play video" errors. These settings helped:
    - install Haali with .avi support and enable "autoload DirectVobSub" in its configuration
    - remove DirectVobSub from postprocessing section in MP configuration/videos
    - activate "show subtitles" in MP configuration/videos
    - separate folder for external subs does not function any more, the .srt files must be beside the .mkv or .avi and have exactly the same name OR embedded (you can do with mkv merge)

This is short summary as far as I can remember, hope this helps. I could at last play all my mkvs and avis with subs on/off.

I haven't taken the plunge to install 1.0.1 yet, but I also ONLY use mkv's with embedded subs. External subs are just too messy, and I merge any avi's with external subs using mkvmerge. I have MP setup almost as kszabo describes above:

    1. Install Haali without .avi support, and "autoload directvobsub" enabled in Haali settings
    2. No postprocessing at all
    3. Show subtitles not set in MP configuration / videos

I didn't remove DirectVobSub, just activate the show subtitle. Can watch videos with .srt files without problems (1.0.1). Only difference for me, subtitle are now automatic on when running a video, before it was off.

I gave up on this and many other problems with MP101. It is just to buggy to me!!

    Examples:
    * Sub problems (as mentioned above)
    * TV stream playback messy with <=15 fps (while MP100 plays 25fps).
    * 1080p material stutters from time to time with only like 5 fps (while MP100 always shows 23,87 fps).
    * MP101 sometimes lags on keyboard inputs, e.g. I press down in the main menu, and the selection scrolls down like 5 seconds later

I'm a bit disappointed by MP101, while MP100 just works so perfect.
So: Never change a running system.

Fortunately, MP can be uninstalled completely, so you can just reverse to the old version...

    Best regards,

    Heiko
