MP 1.2 Beta Hauppauge Colossus issue with channel (1 Viewer)

Hello guys,

I spend the last week reading and reading posts after posts, and I am almost there (Hauppauge recognised, IR Blaster change channel and so on).

But with all that hard work, I still do not have any image on tv live, pretty discouraging, the guide is empty and scanning tv channels only give's me is "Channel 999 source:Cable : Nothing found where 999 is from 1 to 128. TV Chanel tab gives me a set of cable type CVBS#1 on 3, CVBS#2 on 3, SVideo#1 on 3, etc. and preview in TV Server Config always gives me a NoPmtFound (if it means, no payment found, I am willing to pay to get it fix, believe me).

Here is my setup :

Windows 7 SP1
Hauppauge Colossus
MediaPortal 1.2 beta
All_Colossus_HDPVR_Patch(2) installed
HDPVR Fix Patch 27731 installed
IR Server Suite - Test Build 1.4.2.4189 installed
ScheduleDirectPlugin installed (canadian one for 1.2 beta)

Hi Denis

You're not the only one struggling with this - I do apologise for that. Let's try and get this sorted out quickly because it shouldn't take a week to get this working - more like a matter of an hour or so...

So did you follow the instructions in the first post of -->this thread<--... because it seems like you must have got lost somewhere. In particular, you *do not* want to install the HDPVR fix patch 27731 - that is *way* out of date now. There are up-to-date instructions for installing a base setup -->here<--. Make certain you haven't installed the WMC plugin - it will cause problems.

After you've done that, install the blaster and SchedulesDirect. You'll need to use the SchedulesDirect plugin to import your channels into TV Server - *scanning won't work*. Make sure you also take note of the settings on the advanced tab during the SchedulesDirect import so that you create your channels with the correct settings. In particular, the video input needs to be set correctly - off the top of my head I think you should use YRYBY#1 if you're using component (3 RCA connections) for video. If you're using HDMI then you'll need to manually edit each channel after the import and set the video input to Hdmi#1.

First, thank you for your quick reply, you guys are pros.

No need to apologize for the difficulties to install, you need to walk before you run, you guys are working on something big and it just take time to make it perfect.

I went a little further, having a message in the middle of the live tv screen indicating I should use YRB#1, but I still do not have any channel ether in TV-Server Configuration TVChannel or when I actually look at live tv, channel or tv guide in the actual MediaPortal. WMC is not an issue, I uninstalled it using the Windows Program installer tool.

I also made my subscription to ScheduleDirects, wrote my username and password, selected to force channel scanning on tv service startup.

I guess, now is a good time to give you some logs (this is also something I learned while reading all those posts).

Take note that I am receiving this message every second in the error.log :

This is a problem - you need to use SchedulesDirect to import your lineup into TV Server. I'm not able to instruct you on this part as I don't actually have a Colossus and I've never used SchedulesDirect. Only once you have channels in the TV Channels section in TV Server will you have any hope of seeing channels and guide info in MediaPortal...

Hello mm,

My fault, I did not put the LineUp in my ScheduleDirect account, it could not work because it has no idea what supplier I had.

Now, I am step further (and very close I think), all the channels are getting imported but they all have the same message (Channel not mapped to any card). Do you have any idea (I read a lot again on this matter, but without finding anything that can correct the issue).

By the way, I still have every single second this sentence being added to the error log : 2011-08-14 09:39:19.634872 [PowerScheduler poll thread(13)]: WebEPG: no valid next wakeup date for EPG grabbing found!

I added some logs to give you some information about the bug (or my unsolvable lack of knowledge !)

If you get stuck with issues like this in the future then I'd advise you search our wiki first - it will get you faster answers. Briefly: channels must be mapped to devices so that TV Server knows which devices it can use when you ask it to tune a given channel. The information about channel mapping is -->here<--.

Regarding the log entry thing: did you enable a web EPG or powerscheduler plugin?

Yes, you're right, I miss this mapping of channel in the wiki, I am sorry about this :sorry:

It started to work with line #1 as the sound source (both SDPIF and RCA Left-right cables are connected) and YNYBY #1 as video source (I am using that Blue-Green-Red cable that comes with the Colossus). Cool on the image side, pretty ordinary on the sound side.

When I remove the RCA Left-Right cable and set it to SDPIF #2, it stopped working, no video, no sound.

I tried a whole bunch of combination without success.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, here is the logs.

I'm not sure that I entirely understand exactly what you're trying to achieve. From the look of your logs you seem to have tried *many* different input combinations - obviously some worked and some didn't...

Let's be clear. When you configure a channel, you have more options available than the Colossus actually has to offer. The Colossus provides the following connections (some might be the loop-through outputs - not 100% certain):

Connect and select the inputs as per your requirements. For example, if you want component video with SPDIF audio then select YRYBY #1 for video and SPDIF #2 for audio. Also ensure that your source device (for example: STB) is configured to provide video and audio on the correct outputs if necessary. Some boxes may have HDCP protection on the HDMI output or not allow the use of multiple outputs at the same time (for example, HDMI and component + SPDIF).

I don't see any problem with MySQL in your logs.

Wow, this is, by far, the best summary of the different type of video and audio sources. Thank you so much, this will certainly be a reference for a lot of end users.

Just a few details, if I may ask.

1) In order to complete your amazing list, a word or two of the type of cable would be useful since Composite and Component and RGB could be easily misunderstood by the non-technical end users.

2) Is there a way to massively change the audio source (video source is easy, you delete all the channels in the TV Channel section, and you set it up to the proper source in the ScheduleDirect plugin/Advanced options while forcing a regeneration on service startup). What is the trick for the audio source (can of important since I understood that you must change all the video and audio source if you want it to work.

3) When you mention the source in your comments, I assume you are talking about the cable or satellite box (if the box is not setup to use SDPIF, I will never work on SDIPF #2 obviously).

4) How do you know, in which log and which specific term you were able to determine that some channels were working, it is kind of useful when you trying to setup the TV Services and you have to start MediaPortal to check if it work everytime (you must wait for the timeout and message that there is no signal when you are trying to try multiple combination of video and audio source, you are loosing a lot of time.

Unfortunately it isn't possible to bulk-change the audio source at present unless you are able to directly manipulate the TV Server database. I think WileECoyote contacted the SchedulesDirect folks and requested the ability to set the audio source a couple of months ago. I've been pottering away at some changes that will add/improve support for a wide range of capture cards. Part of that would be to allow you to add channels and set the video and audio source without the need for Schedules Direct to do it. Those changes aren't finished yet though.

For a start, you don't have to use MP. You can if you want to (if you do, it would be easiest to use MP in windowed mode - press alt+enter to jump between full screen and windowed modes) but you could just use the "preview" button in the TV Channels section. The second thing to note is that the timeout is entirely due to the fact that the wrong inputs are configured. The length of the delay is almost entirely determined by the PMT timeout parameter on the "scan" tab of the "general" section in TV Server configuration. If you drop that down to around 5 seconds then I think that would have reduced your testing time significantly.

To your question: you can't tell from the logs any faster than from manually attempting to view the channels. The reason for the delay is that TV Server is waiting for the Colossus to provide audio and video. TV Server gives up waiting after the time specified by the PMT timeout. You can see this in the tv.log and TsWriter log here:
