Hi,

I am really new to MP ... I installed it on my computer and I'm loving it .... especially yhe fact that I can launch a web browser with the wanted URL via the shortcut plugin ....

I would like to have MP on my TV so my question is .... is there any official box (such as the PopCorn Hour boxes) that has MediaPortal in it and that can connect to my LAN via Ethernet and Wireless connections ...

Mediaportal only runs on Windows so you need a pc to run it on. You can have a pc in your livingroom like most on here have.

there are a few ways to connect your pc to your tv... I use a vga to svid converter to connect to mine (an old 4:3 analog crt tv), some use their video out connecters on their pc's (dvi, hdmi, vga) to connect directly to their digital tv's.

Well I don't think there is anything technical stopping someone from making such a box based on Windows 7 Embedded Standard, but I doubt we'll se something mass produced, maybe we'll get something when MP2 is ready.

Well it seems like the best options are either having an extension cable from my computer to my living room for the keyboard, mouse and screen ... but the distance is at least 30ft so not the best idea ...

Or I can try and find a Mac Mini , run bootcamp , install windows XP or 7 , install MP and connect it to my TV ...

Other options that I dont wanna consider :
-buying a shuttle (too expensive and noisy)
-buying a shuttle media center (wayyyyyyyyy too expensive.... $1500)

Well there are alot of cheap computers out there that will do the job.

I'd take a look in this part of the forum if you want to buy and not build:

Barebones and commercial HTPC's - MediaPortal Forum

But if you but an Atom computer you need to make sure it has Nvidia ION graphics.

Another option is to buy a laptop. That way you won't have to buy a PC that only works as a HTPC. If you buy a laptop with the latest generation of graphic cards like a Mobility Radeon 5xxx it's powerfull enough to be used as a HTPC.

I've been digging yesterday evening and found the Acer Revo R3610 pretty interesting ...
