Some of my films like "Bärenbrüder", "Ritter Jamal - Eine schwarze Komödie" and "Shrek - Der tollkühne Held" are crashing my MP when I try to import them. "Bärenbrüder 2" works without problems.

I have this problem with MePo 1.2.2 and MovPic 1.3.0 or 1.3.1.

Problem occurs when I try to scrape movies directly in MovPic or if only externally built nfo should be imported. The wohl Config crashes and MovPic-DB is broken after that. Any ideas?

Maybe try disabling MediaInfo retrieval. That mediainfo library really losses it's mind when it encounters something unexpected. You can disable this under the gear icon on the Movie Importer. If you post debug log files I could maybe help further.

Thanks fforde! Now I can import them without a problem. What is the MediaInfo retrieval for? Do I need it? Should I nevertheless produce the debug log files for you?

MediaInfo is a system that can extract information out of a mediafile quickly. It comes in the form of an application that you can use yourself, and a DLL that can be used by other programs such as MediaPortal and MovingPictures (they both use it). It obtains information such as framerate (MePo uses this info for example to allow 24Hz playback on 24fps media), but also resolution, runtime, and codec info which MovingPictures uses to display those media icons with.

But as new codecs are released, new containers, new configurations and bugs are found, the MediaInfo development team updates their product. By default MediaPortal comes with an older MediaInfo DLL that sits in the program root folder, alongside the mediaportal.exe file. You can manually upgrade this DLL (use the 32-bit DLL even on a 64-bit OS) by downloading it from:

Grab the 32-bit (without installer) DLL file from this location, unzip and overwrite the MediaInfo.DLL file in your MePo folder

You can also use the MPEI installer to install mvCentral, which is a cool plugin to play music videos with. It comes bundled with v0.7.52 of MediaInfo.DLL and asks you during installation if you wish to upgrade. Since MediaPortal, MovingPictures, mvCentral and all other plugins that need it, use the same MediaInfo library it will fix your problems. It can happen that you have another mediainfo DLL on your system that got registered into the OS and cause a conflict. So if you continue to have problems you need to scan your system for other references to an older MediaInfo file and remove those.

    Hi RoChess,

that works for one movie the others still crash. Even if I open them directly in MediaInfo. This bug could be the one. I record with DVBViewer but sounds similar to my problem. Will follow it.

Glad to see you did the work to search for an existing problem.

I also see that zenitram (one of the lead developers on MediaInfo) was able to identify and fix the problem:

Will be corrected/available in the next official version.

You can also test the lastest development snapshot in the "development
    snapshots" part of the downloads:
    MediaInfo - Browse /development_snapshots at SourceForge.net

So you could test with the snapshot DLL and see if that fixes it for you as well. If it doesn't keep a hold of the 'bad' file you have, as you can provide that to zenitram (they will provide FTP account details to upload), so that they can fix it. I've done the same myself when MediaInfo was causing issues with certain AVI files, and once the fix is in place it will benefit everybody.

Direct Download = MediaInfo DLL (part of the application) 32-bit version from Jan 19th 2012 (Open source based 7-zip program or 7z compatible extractor required)

The new version 0.7.53 did not fix my problem. I now have written to zenitram and will try to find the problem with his help.

Thanks for helping, the MediaInfo library is an awesome way for MediaPortal, MovingPictures and other plugins to get information from media files, but at the same time it can be a pain as a crash can take down the entire system.

This kinda of makes it a sharp love/hate relationship, but hopefully zenitram can fix the issue you still have and make MediaInfo more stable to deal with bad/unknown files. At the same time hopefully improvements can be made on the MePo/MovPic side to not let a MediaInfo DLL crash ruin things.

Strange behaviour of some of my files. Most of them now work with the new MediaInfo. The files which won't work even didn't run in VLC. MediaInfo is not anymore the reason for the problems therefore this problem is "solved". ;)
