Hi All,

i currently have problems with playing some movies (.mkv) on my Mediaportal. I'm using the SAF Codec and didn't had any problems with it so far. But since one month or so i started to have problems with some mkv video files, while others are working fine.

When i start the Movie the Screen goes to fullscreen as if the movie starts, but just a second later it returns me to the video list. After that the film is marked as "viewed" by mediaportal. There isn't any error message and there also is not an entry in the error log file. When i watch the movie with VLC Player it works, but the CPU-Load is very high. Mediaplayer Classic plays the movie, but with a crackling noise instead of the sound.

What could be the problem?

Maybe try to change the audio codec.

Maybe the audio codec is the reason. Currently i've configured FFDSHOW Audio Codec in my stettings. You mentioned that i should disable AC3 and DTS in FFDSHOW Audio if i want to use AC3. The problem is: I dont know if i should/want to use AC3

My HTPC is connected to my AV-Receiver via optical Cable. So what setting should i made for this setup? Many thanks for the help!

Update: In fffdshow audio output config Dolby Digital (AC3) and DTS is currently checked

You can try AC3Filter or LAV Audio Decoder coming with the LAVF Package and disable ffdshow for DTS and AC3 Sound. Hopefully this helps!
SPDIF passthrough should be enabled in the decoder options. (from AC3Filter or LAV Audio decoder)

Problem solved: I installed SAF 6 and activated the LAV Audio Decoder. Now everything works again.
