OK i had MP 0.2.2.0 running fine and i used the "MediaPortal-update-0.2.0.4.exe" update so i would have the latest stable version. i copyed the old 0.2.2.0 folder to a folder called "MediaPortal Backup" like it said in the instructions then ran the update when it went to start the MediaPortal setup i got a popup saying there was no "FireDTVKeymap.XML so i copyed it from the old MediaPortal folder.
Now when i start MediaPortal there is just a black window. i set it to use the Blue Two in setup.

    MediaPortal-update-0.2.0.4.exe

Not sure here, looks like a backward step.

0.2.3.0 RC3 is the current release.

Some of the Database info from earlier versions can screw up MP bigstyle, under these circumstances a uninstall\delete folder\reinstall recommended and reconfigure.

Maybe you should clarify the version you are using.

    Thanks

I'm using the install found in this zip file "MediaPortal_0.2.2.zip" the home page of this forum said it was the latest stable release 0.2.2.0 but when i asked for help for "My Burner" rtv told me it was an old version of the "SVN" whatever that means. So i was trying to update the SVN to try to make "My Burner" work and got everything screwed up. As you can probably tell i'm new to this htpc and MP stuff. anyway i uninstalled MP and started over, i have 0.2.2.0 up and running again and the program guide is working though i haven't tried recording again yet, and i need to rebuild the movie and music database again but almost there..

Doesn't RC stand for release candidate which would indicate that it's in beta? I may be interested in running beta testing after i get to know the software better but for now i'm just trying to find the latest "finished product" stable release that the plugins work in.

    Thanks for the help..

Hate to throw a spanner in the works, but technically the whole of MP is Beta.

Plugins\skins vary whether they are current for RC3 or will work with 0.2.2.0.

    Good Luck with your setup.

That explains a lot, thanks for that information. Still all in all seems like a well put together program.
i guess if the program is in Beta i might as well run the latest version.:)

    thanks again Ray

Your main problems seems to be a version mis-match, as PD has pointed pointed out.

If you are running the latest stable version, then you can't upload any of the SVNs (which are works in progress). You need to apply the very latest release candidate (RC3 at this stage) then apply the SVN over that.

If I was you, I would remove MP using Add/Remove programs. Then delete the whole directory and copy your back up back into place (keep the backup as well, just in case). Then install 2.2RC3 and then apply the SVN you have.

This should solve your issues. You probably don't even need to restore your backup but since the database may have been screwed it's probably a good idea.

    All the best :)

    :)

Yea that update really hosed that install, i removed it with "add remove programs" deleted the remaining files in the MP folder and instaled RC3.
Can the "xmltv.dtd" file in the "XMLTV" folder be replaced with the one from the original good install of 0.2.2.0.
