the system was scheduled to record channel FIVER at 19:00 when I came in at around 19:30 the system was clearly looping - the fans were on

I could not get into the system - blank screen and would not respond to keyboard or mouse. It could be accessed remotely - discs could be accessed but I could not remotely logon. So power button..........

On restart I investigated and then captured the logs (attached)

From my investigation it looks like the tv server woke as expected at 18:55 and found the tv tuners. It then determined that it could tune to FIVER on card 6 but things went wrong:

2010-05-23 18:55:07.265625 [scheduler thread(13)]: card: Tune 6 to FIVER
2010-05-23 18:55:07.296875 [scheduler thread(13)]: card: user: scheduler454:6:-1 tune DVBT:tv:five FIVER Freq:770000 ONID:9018 TSID:12294 SID:12928 PMT:0x113 FTA:True LCN:30 BandWidth:8
2010-05-23 18:55:07.359375 [scheduler thread(13)]: dvbt: Tune:DVBT:tv:five FIVER Freq:770000 ONID:9018 TSID:12294 SID:12928 PMT:0x113 FTA:True LCN:30 BandWidth:8
2010-05-23 18:55:07.406250 [scheduler thread(13)]: dvbt:BuildGraph
2010-05-23 18:55:07.468750 [scheduler thread(13)]: dvb:AddNetworkProviderFilter
2010-05-23 18:55:07.546875 [scheduler thread(13)]: dvb:Add DVBT Network Provider
2010-05-23 18:55:07.593750 [(20)]: card: Tune 6 to talkSPORT

I dont understand why 20 (thread?) suddenly pinches the card for and EPG grab - especially as talkSport is radio.....

Just checked the configuration settings.

"EPG grabbing while time shifitng/recording" was set with a 2 minute timeout - unset it
radio EPG grabbing was for most radio channel - including talk sport. Disabled them all

All radio channels were mapped to the DVB-T tuners......

So maybe this will go away not - but I think there is a bug in the area of ocking out tuners when tuneing then

This looks reasonably ok but you appear to be having issues grabbing EPG on a radio channel (I don't bother with radio on Freeview but has "heat" gone ??)

anyway it looks like EPG keeps trying to grab from this channel but can not tune to it. When system resumed your recording attempts to start but in the meantime the EPG tried to kick off again
    Code:
2010-05-23 18:55:08.218750 [(20)]: dvb: A useable TV Tuner cannot be found! Either the device no longer exists or it's in use by another application!
    Then MP sorts itself out
    Code:
    2010-05-23 18:55:33.359375 [scheduler thread(13)]: subch:0 StartRecord(H:\myvideos\FlashForward - FIVER - 2010-05-23.ts)
    ...
    2010-05-23 18:57:33.984375 [(24)]: dvb:abort grabbing epg
    2010-05-23 18:57:34.765625 [(24)]: Timeshifting epg grabber stopped.[/quote]
    and kicks off the recording

    Then you have
    [code]2010-05-23 19:47:48.421875 [(5)]: TV service: Starting
which is a problem as your TVService looks to have crashed and restarted.

By all accounts it looks like the program was recorded correctly until the crash. The EPG looks to keep trying to grab details for Kiss and Heat but either they have gone, tuning details are wrong or they are not transmitting any EPG data. Either way you turning of EPG grabbing for these channels will stop this happening.

You have some other bug reports open for issues with TVServer so I am closing this as no bug.

The other option you might want to lookat is the re-initialize tvservice on resume. This will restart the TV service so it won't try and pick up where it left off previously

    Thanks again for the help.

    Surely thats a bug? :D

shouldnt MP be resilient to this? How can I find out if a channel is broadcasting EPG?
As a workaround I have indeed turned off EPG on radio.

I already do this - and wait for 45 seconds for the tv cards to come online.

Probably but unable to gleam anything from the logs you have and I am sure you have another thread open about tvservice crashing, if not you need a new one....

It is TVService crashed and then restarted. Not checked again but had the program finished by then or did recording kick in again?

based on the files left it looks like the recording kicked in again - I have two parts to the recording.

    Cheers

So MP was resilient and coped with the failure :)

The issue is the tv service crashing which needs solving. Make sure a thread is raised for that
