MP seems clumsy when playing my videos on my HD (1 Viewer)

I installed MP and all seems well. However, when I use Windows Explorer to navigate to the video I want to watch and then RightClick and select "Open With" and choosing MP I assumed that from then on I could simply double click my movie title and MP would open and play it.

Instead, MP opens up to a very intimidating home page, and I then have to tell it what I want to watch and where to find it.

This is clumsy compared to other video players.

I suspect I can "tell" MP where my videos are-but I keep them in folders and subfolders.

It seems to me that I need a car and I've got myself an 18-wheeler ?

Well, did you ever read what MePo actually is?
Sorry, but this is not a replacement for the media player in windows. It's an "all in one" media center.
Btw, you hit the nail right on the head with that one:

I understand that it has many more functions than a simple media player, but that doesn't explain why one of it's functions is more complex.

No need to respond. I will uninstall it and find something more suitable.

I will do it anyway

Just compare it to MS-Office. You wouldn't start that to just open a txt file, right? That's what notepad is for.
