My scenario:

I currently have an HTPC with a Hauppage 2250 TV card. I watch and record Live TV using Windows Media Center. The live TV shows that I record are mainly for my wife. I have another HTPC setup in another room where she can watch her recorded shows using either WMC or WMP.

Lately, one of my co-workers has been buying and testing these little boxes called Argosy HV335T-EN000 Mobile Video HDD Media Player. These devices apparently will read a lot of media formats but they will not read "*.wtv".

What I would like to do is setup my HTPC with the TV card to record TV shows and be able to watch them on one of those little boxes instead of having a PC dedicated for this.

I am looking for media software that can play and record live TV; such as MediaPortal. However, the format that the media software records in needs to be something more compatible with other devices.

MediaPortal looks pretty cool. Using it on more than one PC is a cool option. But I don't want to dedicate a PC to something that a little box that costs $100 can do if possible.

Any suggestions? Am I going to have to convert my "*.wtv" files or "*.ts" files (if I switch to MediaPortal) in order for one of these boxes to play them?
