I haven't checked your logs, but a while back there was a problem with the info service plugin which caused lots of people to have stability problems. It might be worth checking that you have the latest version installed.

I've been having daily issues with freezing for quite some time... it seems to have worsened since a (manual) Windoze Update about a month ago. I have the newest info service. but things lock up at unpredictable times, most often during video playback (not TV) when trying to skip back.

Since 1.2 b is so close, I hadn't reported the issue.

    Hi Robbo100 and 2BitSculptor,

Thanks for your note - I was beginning to feel that I was the only one with the issue.

I don't use the Info Service Plugin, but thanks for the thought.

The windows updates is an interesting one as I do this manually and only when I upgrade Media Portal to elliminate these as being part of any issue - the freezing has happened with MP V 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 where I have done a Windows update before installing each one.

I'm really hoping that someone could just look at my logs and if the log file they need isn't there then let me know.

    Thanks again for you posts.

Any help out there would be appreciated.

    Graham

You should check if only happens on certain channels, with a certain TV-Card, with/without CAM etc.

You also didn't post full logs, do this the next time it happens.

Are your system specs up to date? Multiseat or single-seat?

    Hi mate.

On the 1st post you asked a way to get to the desktop on a MP freeze - just press ctrl+shift+escape and that'll open task manager directly. From there you can simply end the MediaPortal task and be back to your desktop right away.

No idea what's causing your freeze though, sorry. All I can add is that I've had quite a few different problems after doing windows updates in the past. I actually don't do them anymore. I install Windows 7, say No to applying any automatic updates, then disable it, and I only install or update the drivers and software I actually need so it's as clean as possible. Also makes for a very quick rebuild if anything goes Pete Tong.

Of course, if you want to stick with Windows Updates then use System Restore and you can easily revert back to your pre-updated system state.

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Mine locks up as well. I have been working on this for quite some time and have not found an issue. I also posted a request for help a couple days ago and have not gotten much response. here is the link to that post.

I don't use TV, or TV Series on my htpc install. I completly uninstalled and re-installed MP to try and solve this issue, no luck.

Hope we can figure this out and that it is not there in 1.2.

    Hi,

Will try the Ctrl+ Shift+ Esc+ next time it locks up - wasn't aware of that one - thanks!!

The windows updates I only do before installing an updated version of MP and I do the windows updates prior to the MP upgrade, but that doesn't mean the updates themselves have not caused the issue of course. I'm on Vista 32 bit by the way.

Thanks for your note - appreciated.

    Hi,

Thanks for your note - sounds like there are a few of us with this issue then.

Are your windows updates up to date? I have not done mine since MP V 1.1.2 came out.

    Hi,

    I'm on single seat.

The issue is completely random on TV, recordings and channels, but usually happens when I'm watching something and change to something else without pushing stop i.e. MP is switching between things.

When you say post full logs, which files are missing?

Thanks for your reply and help.

My windows updates are turned on and set to automatic. I have never hadan issue in the past with that. For a box connected to the internet, I want to keep the security updates coming and up to date. You never know (without looking it up) what holes are there and being corrected.

gperkinson - what have to done to try and solve it youself so far?

    have you tried changing codecs?

have you installed all the windows updates?

have you installed the latest video drivers for your gfx card?

are you using latest drivers for your dvb cards?

have you disabled any plugins your not using?

are all your plugings running the latest version?

    also,

have you uninstalled FTR and just tried using the default MP TV system?

    Hi,

Thanks for the note. To answer your questions:

Running SAF4 codecs (with all others uninstalled as recommended by lots of members) ... but have to admit that the issue has started since installing those and this was done in conjunction with installing MP V 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 when this issue started

Latest Windows Updates were installed when V 1.0.2 came out at the same time - none since then (I only do a Windows update when I do a full uninstalll / reinstal of the next MP Version)

Latest Drivers installed for graphics card and Catalyst Control Centre (Jan-11)

Latest driver for my Nova 500-T installed (according to the internet) but it's quite old (Feb-07) and I have not been able to find an updated version - any pointers on this appreciated as there are a number of people out there with this card.

Only Plugin is For The Record (latest version)

Would be keen to know the name of the log files which may help to diagnose this issue.

Just to re-iterate, this is totally intermittant, so it may not happen for a few days and then start playing up, where I used to have to do a reboot. Knowing about the Ctrl+ Shift+ Esc+ to kill the MP connection, this might mean I have some log files with the issue (which may have been deleted through the reboot)

Thanks for your reply - any additional help appreciated.
