MP V1.1.2 Randomly Freezes (2 Viewers)

you need to post all the logs, when it crashes, immediatly zip up the contents of the logs folder and post them, not just a selection or you probably wont get much help

if it started happening when you installed SAF then you should start there, remove all your codecs and start again

What is your codec for h264 in in MP config under TV? I believe alot of NZers on DVB-T are using CoreAVC codec? have you tried that?

you need to eliminate things to work out where the problem is, you should definiatly uninstall FTR and revert to normal MP and make sure its still crashing to rule that out

install all the windows updates and i would be suprised if there wasnt never drivers than 2007 for your card??

If i were you i would probably format and reinstall windows 7 and start fresh

Hi mate.

On the 1st post you asked a way to get to the desktop on a MP freeze - just press ctrl+shift+escape and that'll open task manager directly. From there you can simply end the MediaPortal task and be back to your desktop right away.

I tried the Ctrl+ Shift+ Esc to open task manager, but it did not appear over the top of Media Portal unfortunately. Is there a setting in the MP Configuration somewhere to get around this?

I tried the Ctrl+ Shift+ Esc to open task manager, but it did not appear over the top of Media Portal unfortunately. Is there a setting in the MP Configuration somewhere to get around this?

You can remove the tick from the "MP always on top" option within MP settings.

Alternatively I have one of my remote control keys mapped (using intelliremote) to run a batch file which runs the TSKILL command which I use to kill the MP process on the rare occasion that i have a system hang.

Yep, good suggestion from Robbo, although someone correct me if I'm wrong - but if ctrl+shift+esc doesn't show the task manager over the top of MP, that suggests Windows has totally hung, not just MP. When was the last time you did a totally fresh system rebuild from scratch Graham? Might be worth a try.

I recently upgraded my server/client to windows 7 and I also have freezing of the mediaportal application. I can alt tab and see other windows when it freezes and reach the task bar and carry out a controlled restart but if I press ctl alt delete the pc completely locks. The only way to get out then it to power off. I haven't had time yet to fully investigate the cause but I do have SAF installed. I never had this problem on Windows XP MCE.

Same issue here after updating to Windows 7

MS Codecs for everything, except Audio - which is FFDShow

Random freezing, cant bring up the task manager, however PC isn't frozen as I can still access iPiMP

Turned on the watchdog and the debug logs etc - hopefully can get something useful. However as with other posters - need to reboot - so screws up logs a bit

Thanks for the reply and suggestions.

I tried unticking the "always on top" tickbox, but had another freeze since then and still cannot get out of the locked MP screen.

I have a MCE Remote which came with my Nova 500-T card. I'm interested in trying out your "intelliremote" option (as it would also be "wife proof") Would you mind doing breif step by step instrcutions on that. I think it's my only option, especially with the other 2 posts above which points to windows still being OK.

Reading the other 2 comments, it sounds like the common thing is that we all have SAF installed and MP 1.1.1 upwards, so I might drop a note in the SAF forum.

Mine by the way happens about once per week and usually happens when I minimise what I'm watching and then try and open something else before hitting "stop".

Well I messed up my test Windows 7 install, so cant provide logs or insight into this. Will probably re-install next weekend, and I may hold off from installing SAF and see if that makes a difference.
